I recently restored a '53 Massey 33 with the intent of driving it in parades and going on a tractor ride. Found out my homeowner ins will not cover it. Mainly interested in liability.
Having trouble finding any insurance that will cover it. If any does, it is very expensive!
I am a non-farmer. Do not plan to pull the tractor or haul passengers. Need information soon if possible. Thanks!

My homeowners policy has a rider that covers my tractors in case of a fire in the field or theft. The liability kicks in only at certain events (tractor shows, rides, ect). I have to let my agent know before hand what show I am going to be going to and he writes up a paper with all the pertinent info. Not all shows I attend require this, but more are starting to. My cost is $1.00/$100.00 in value.

I had a lot of problems with this also. Their is great debate as to if it is covered under your homeowners policy and can make good arguments both ways. One rual rep would point out what section on my policy would cover me and my suburban rep says it does not. I asked for them to put it in wrighting and they would not. Guess I got my answer.

State Farm was no help as was Farmers. I think they shoule remove the Farm from their name.

Getting insurance is a real problem

The area the agent is from really matters. Rual agents seem to get what your talking about and can get you what your need the more suburban you get they less likely they are to help.

A rual Farm Family agent managed to put together a FARM policy that covered me including if the tractor gets stolen and medical insurance if some one gets hurt on my tractor. I'm even covered if I borrow someone elses tractor.

I really don't understand insurance companies. The risk has to be low for this type of activity ?

You are extremely wise to have liability insurance!

I can suggest Great American Insurance Group, Cincinatti OH (800-369-5000). $1M liability + physical damage coverage ($250 deductable) costs under $100/year for my 3 old tractors here in NY state.

Outside of NY it will likely cost less...

I think the responses are missing your question. i.e. LIABILITY. This is not quoted cost by the $100 of value. That is probably physical damage. Have you called your agent and told him exactly what your going to do? If he/she can't help you then shop for another agent! You may want to call Haggerty Insurance 800-747-5348. Please remember insurance varies from state to state. Good Luck.

Ok, my insurance covers if I am at a parade and something happens, it covers it. If my tractor fly's off the trailer going down the highway, it covers the tractor and the insurance on the pickup covers whatever it hits. If somebody hits my tractor, its covered by this insurance. If it hails on it, they pay for it to have it fixed. Does that answer your question.

I had the same problem you do. I got an antique insurance through state farm. It price is like 1.25 for every 100.00 of value. Thought you might want to know.

I tried that last year to no avail with State Farm. If you're a farmer it was no problem, but if you're a city slicker like me, it was no cigar.(I'll have to check it out again.)
I checked several places with the same answer. I just went anyway and had a great time, even better knowing I didn't have to pay some corporate suit a payment on his Mercedes. (grin)
State Farm has been a good company for me, though. Never a problem with a claim. Always fair.

Check with various agents on what I believe is called an "Inland Marine" policy. I have my tractors included on my farm policy, but have heard several people talking about inland marine....

I think there are probably quite a few people that take their tractors on rides and enter them in parades, and do not have insurance. Most of these folks probably never gave it a thought, or just assumed they were covered. Liability insurance is something we all need to make sure we have.
