I should have said that it has been sitting in a paddock few several years and there isn't even a battery on it. There isn't any wiring but I have spark when I crank it with the handle.
Do I need a battery.

I would like to fine out how old it is as well.

One other thing it needs -- FRESH GAS. If the gas is really old and lost it's vigor, and you can tell by the smell sometimes, you can have all the compression, spark, right timing, and old gas in China, but it will just not start. If it has sat a long time make this a priority.

And in our present day and age, "old" gas is anything that has sat over a hot summer- best first step is to drain the gas and replace.

Sounds like from your information, all you have to do is tow it around the yard for about 30 minuties and keep popping the cluch, when that don't work, then call a good mechanic, he's get it going fur ya....LOL ..good luck,,,,,

It needs compression, fuel, good spark, and with proper timing. Step one is to find which one of these is missing.
