I just cant stop!

I’ve been working on the little Towmotor I bought last weekend. It had been sitting for quite some time. I've got it to run pretty decent now (except it will need a ring job sometime in the future). I changed all the fluids and everything’s working now except the brakes. That’s a problem since I don’t own any flat land! It has a Wagner master cylinder FE17095 in it. I tried a Rube Goldberg rebuild on it using makeshift parts but it’s a no go. (actually a no stop!) I need real parts or an already rebuilt one. I tried NAPA but frankly since the local one changed hands they are all but useless. The old outfit could find about anything. Not sure how old this critter is, 50’s or 60’s sometime I suspect. Any suggestions where else to look for antique brake parts? Thanks
Tim

Sorry, I can not help with your problem. I was wondering if you might post some better pics of your buildings? I am looking into some metal building options as was thinking of going with a typical barn color scheme (on a pole barn). Thanks, I hope you find what you need.

George

I just built the above polebarn last year and finished it during the winter. Its 40 x 80 and 14’ walls. Roof is a 6/12 pitch. Siding is red with white trim and a green roof. There are a few more pictures at the links below Link

I would try another GOOD local parts place. Even a truck parts place maybe. They should have access to Wagner parts. Or do some looking in phone book to see if any local forklift specialty places around you. Our local auto supply was able to order kits for some Wagner master cylinder and cylinders for our old 6x6 army truck.

The guys at NAPA ought to be able to get in their brake "picture" book and match something up for you. If not take matters in your own hands and contact Federal Mogul who now owns/bought out the Wagner line and see if they can help you with a kit number, or the newest part number for your master cylinder. Many times the part numbers have changed so many times over the years it's almost impossible to find the latest and greatest one without a little help from the origional parts Mfg. I work on alot of old equipment and often have to call the origional manufacturer of the parts the OEM used in order to get replacement parts or the most upgraded version. It usually takes a good bit of phone time but in the end I usually find what I need. Good luck.

Does it have a manual parking brake? I use that on my anceint Clark. If its auto trans shift to neutral to save brake wear.

It has a micro lock in the brake line for a parking brake. No manual brake at all. It’s also strictly a manual transmission. It really rolls easy and once it’s moving, rolls a long ways. Down even a slight grade is just too hairy to try again without brakes! I had visions of rolling it, which wouldn’t be pretty! The forks are hinged and didn’t dig in as I expected. I haven’t even thought about using the high range yet.

I believe towmoter was bought by Cat so you may be able to get parts from your local Cat dealer if you have one close

Try and fabricate a mounting for one off a older pickup or contact a forklift salvage yard for one.

TWafer; That one post is correct, Towmotor was bought out by Caterpillar, and if you have a Cat dealer nearby, they should be able to help, if not, let me know,we have a local Cat repair station that lists Towmotor parts ! Jim

Cat did buy out Towmotor, but Cat sold off what was left of the business to Daewoo I believe, or some other Korean entity. Near the end, Dawoo was making the Cat line. Regardless, the Cat dealer may still service the machines, but Cat does not make, distribute or sell them.
