I just acquired this little Towmotor yesterday. I thought it would be handy moving stuff around in my new polebarn. I plan on setting up some pallet racks at one end to store stuff on and have most of my implements on pallets too. At any rate I was wondering if anyone could tell me a little more about it. The model # is 510PG2024 and serial # is 510P640171. It’s a type G. Would any of this determine what year it is? I believe it has a Continental 4 cylinder. flathead engine. I haven’t got it running yet but the engine is free. The clutch was frozen up but I got it free this afternoon. Its been sitting for a while but doesn’t look too bad overall. I want to change the fluids before I try to run it. Any good part sources for these critters? I’m missing the rear cover that would go over the radiator area.
Thanks in advance
Tim

Ebay has manuals on CD every so often. Towmotor was bought by Cat. A Cat dealer may stock parts or tell you who does for the old stuff locally.

I have an old Towmotor 440 with gas continental Y112 motor.

Only thing I've done to mine over 3 years is a new capacitor for the points & 3 plugs. The 4th is covered by something coming out of the head don't know what it is so have not messed with it!

I do use it year round so it has antifreeze in it.

if i remember the 440 was the last in the line of the cross mounted motors but somewhere in the back of my OLD mind there could be a 441 send me the mod if there is a dash tage and or the ser. # which is loaced on the right front chassis member if it has an overhead guard you might have to remove it and on these old trucks scrape off many layers of paint you will have to go to bare metal becaused the # were stamped into the frame
if this is the truck i think it is the cover over the plug was just a heat shield thanks for the info on Ebay pat

Looks like an old Cat to me. I apprenticed in the towmotor shop at Masonite Corp. in my senior year in high school. These old girls were antiques in the late 70s. You could probably find the most information at a Caterpiller dealer, especially one with an old dog mechanic or two still haunting the shop.
