Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago and our nation was the most prosperous in the world, had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What the hell happened !!!

To reduce taxes you must reduce spending.

I propose that the FSA be eliminated. This would stop CRP, LDP, and Counter Cyclical payments. Did I forget any?

100 years ago was 1905, there were toll roads and toll bridges, there were court fines, and liquor tax.
Frankly how do you suppose they paid for anything without taxes? Do you think people just GAVE money to the government?
Who fed you this line and why are you believing it?

Balance yer books!!! Then you'll have a list of ALL the things we didn't have 100 years ago. And you'll know where the money went. And I bet you'll find yourself a beneficiary of some of it!
We got too much government and too much tax....make no mistake there. Just tell me what you are willing to give up and we'll start a cuttin.

Don't think you would have to "cut" much here in Minnesota, the budgets balloon 10 percent a year and 100 percent increase in education spending in the last 10 years, they go out of their way to spend as much as possible, they have a state law that say's no public official can make more than 95 percent of the governor's salary, so then Ramsey county along with several others came up with way's to funnel the extra cash under the table, even when they were caught nothing happened. I worked in "Government" for 15 years before I got fed up with the waste, we couldn't have money for people to do real work, but we always had extra money for people to do no work, or what we called busy work, the department directors brother (he needed a free job so they invented a job for him) was never in the building for more than 4 hours a day, told everyone he "couldn't be bothered" and worked on his own stuff the whole time. The best one was when they were telling everyone they were out of money and were about to start cutting the budget, then lo and behold we found out that not only was there no shortage of money there was a huge amount of extra funding, they invented something they called "Visionary Development Training" this was mandatory for everyone in the department for 3 ,8 hour day's paid for some guy to fly in from Boston. I guess I would have to say just do a 15 percent cut across the board, then maybe they can start to trim the fat and go back to doing what they should, what is very little, at least the state government was shut down for 10 day's or so here this summer, wish it had been a lot longer, with all the screaming you never herd anyone suggest trimming the fat, no one at all....Kevin

100 years ago when we kicked someone’s a$$ we did not spend trillions rebuilding what we just blew up.
100 years ago we were worried about building jobs in the USA to feed americans rather than feeding the world.
ect ect..... .....
Every one complains about Soc Sec. Put congress back on the social security system and I bet it would be fixed before years end.

In other words if every tax dollar was spent on americans we would have plenty of money.

Actually we sort of did, ever hear of the Kellogg plan?
Anyway not paying to rebuild Germany led to the rise of the Nazi state and we all know how that worked out...

We didn't have so-called "Free Trade", tariffs paid for most of it. Our elected officials were "American First", not the goals of the one world government. Our Presidents 100 years ago didn't sell the nation down the tube to China for reelection money. Thats just a start.

We also didn't have a populance expecting Gov't handouts and "entitlements" and "programs". Between FDR's un-Constitutional seizure of private holdings of gold to LBJ's "Great Society" to the current President Bushs' payments to 9/11 suvivors to NPR to NEA to foreign aid to wet lands conservation easements, (which I took advantage of), to bailing out the S+L's/airlines/Mexico to..... . You get the idea. We all complain about taxes but who will volunteer to give up their "fair share"? No it doesn't help that there are numerous court mandated programs and awards, or that the cost of living always increases, or that the standard answer to any problem is for the Gov't to throw piles of $$$ at it. Add in trade deficits caused by unfair trade practices, over-zealous unions, plain old greed, laziness and price cutting. There's also the problem of Gov't officials who abuse the system for all they can, (PORK), so they get re-elected. A few years ago Readers Digest published an article which noted that we were still paying a tax to pay for the Spanish American War! The Rural Electrification Administration was reported to have an annual budget in the tens of millions and yet hadn't had a project since 1966. Until we get REAL reformers in National and State Gov't we are stuck with the system we've allowed to flourish. The really sad part is that it's still the BEST system the world has ever known. God bless America.
