Hi Folks, it's o/t but I just got a new SUV (Aviator) with the 4.6 liter V8, 300 hp, 32 valves. It uses 5w20 oil. Would an engine oil cooler be advisable in hot 90+ deg weather? Would the oil be getting too thin?
And what's a good cooler to use?

We have long hot summers down here in Aust. Nobody I can think of runs an engine oil cooler although a lot run trans coolers for towing.

Might check your owners manual. Most at least recommend a 30 in the viscosity numbers at the temp you're talking about..... like 10w-30.

Unless you tow a lot (boat or camper or whatever) I wouldn't bother. Modern engines are designed to run hotter.

If you DO tow, I'd get an oil cooler AND a trans cooler.

JMHO, YMMV.
