Farmall M help

I just bought a Farmall M w.f. that hadn't been run for several years but kept inside. To get it home, I drove it 60+ miles in hot nebraska weather. It back-fired a few times at the start but ran fine with solid oil pressure and constant water temp. Because of this long (longer than I wanted)trip, I think? the tractors going to be ok.

First of all- I don't really know a thing about Farmall tractors but this one had a farmhand F-10 loader that I will use around my barns and to lift some trusses for my new barn.

It is missing a muffer (can I buy this at TSC?)and one of the brakes doesn't work very well.

Any suggestion or comment on what to look or things to do before winter.

Also, It rusted and I want to paint it. Will the paint at TSC be alright?

Thank you

This tractor has two hoses that run on the right side next to the break petals what are these?

There is another hose (pipe hose) that originates from about the same area but it runs down the lower right side of the tractor just above the right back axil, and ends with a connector above the PTO cover?

I don't know what these are? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the advise on all the other stuff so far- its been very helpful!

One other thing.... I have cleaned up this old tractor and getting ready to degrease it and paint this weekend. Is there a specific degreaser to get?

FYI-I am buying my paint at the Case dealer not TSC.

Buy your muffler from I H dealer .They're about the same price as TSC but won't rust near a fast as the TSC mufflers. been there.

Yep! You can get a Stanley muffler at TSC. Get the number IH10 for proper fit. About $30.00.

Cowman is correct on the paint, farm store paint is not even the correct color for these old Farmalls. The last muffler I purchased I actually found the best deal at my Case-IH dealer.

The first thing you need is a pair of manuals (ouners and service)...IHC factory copies can be had from --Binder Books 503 684-2024.I guess you know the FARMALL M is very collectible...

Yes you can get a muffler at Tractor Supply, but it will not have its famous sound....They make original copies of stanless.. I need one for each my H & M...Ill post the adress when I find it..any help out there?

Break parts are no broblem Case IH dealer should have that...

Tractor Supply paint is low quality.....you need .... CASE IH dealer or auto supply store...you are going to spend to much time and money to end up with a substandard job...Prep and painting is a subject of its oun...

60 miles? I DROVE my first tractor home that far cuz I didn't have a trailer yet! Anyway yopu will love your m. Ya, you can get a muffler at tsc but I wouldn't mess with teir paint. For jus a few more bucks you can get 2150 red at your case IH dealer that will make you happier. Hard to say about the brakes. might be able to adjust them, could be just rust and dirt. New bands are $50 -60 bucks each. I'd sure change the engine oil right away, check for water in the rear end- transmission, If the 80-90 oil looks ok you can make sure it's full. Of course check the antifreeze, change it if there's any doubts.
Happy tractoring, BTW, where in NE are you? Clay Center Show is featuring IH this year and we are planning a tractor drive starting in Hastings, going out by the ammunition dumps to Clay Center. Fairbanks IH will feed us burgers. All makes welcome.
