For those that aren't familiar with "Phishing", or those that are, but sometimes forget, I got one today that had the "PayPal" logo on it, but wasn't PayPal. It was someone "phishing" for my info to take me to the cleaners. I just got off of the phone with PayPal, and they confirmed it.

It was addressed to "Dear PayPal Member". According to PayPal, they will address there Emails to the specific NAME on the account, along with your email address. They will never address it genericly (Dear PayPal Member). If you receive such a bogus email "phishing" for your financial info, so some two bit slimeball piece of sxxx can take you to the cleaners, you can forward it to "spoof@paypal com".

The one I'd recieved said that they were suspending my account due to recent suspicious activety, and to click onto a link to resolve it. I had no intentions of passing on any info, but clicked onto the link to see what kind of info they were seeking. When I did that, my ISP (AOL), intercepted it and gave me back a reply that said they detected it as a "phishing" something or other. When I went to the actual paypal website and did a history on my account, there had only been 2 items (legit) in the past year, no others. That's when I called Paypal.

Just be careful. We sometimes forget, or get lax, and we all work too hard to let some... take us to the cleaners.

Happens to me a lot also. One way to test the origin of the Email is to highlight it with one left click, don't open it. Then click "File" at the top left of the screen, then click "Properties", then "Details". That will show the true address from which it came.

I know what you're talking about, but doesn't work with AOL, or I'm doing something wrong.

I did click on "details" last night after opening it up and came back with a "gangster..... org" address, which told me something wrong as well. I don't open stuff from Ebay, PayPal, TSC, and on and on, just delete. But last night saw "Suspended for suspicious..." and opened it. The whole dang thing just looked odd.

We all make mistakes, and I shouldn't have opened it in the first place. But Norton hasn't detected a virus, trojan, etc.

Ebay and PayPal in an attempt to catch these people want to know about it, don't click any link and forward the message to either "spoof@ebay.com {or paypal depending who they pretend to be}. Your name be on a legit letter and do not want info you will have to log on the site. They got my email address when I used it as my ebay handle. I get abot 6-8 a month.

After reading numerous horror stories about paypal, I determined not to use them. However within the last week or so I got a scam letter with the ebay logo at the top basically saying the same thing as your letter. I did not click on the link because of fear of them getting info about me. You were fortunate to have AOL catch that before you were a stolen idenity victim. What a shame so many people we spend many tax dollars on educating take this education and turn it aganist the people who gave them that wisdom. skipper

I"ve used PayPal with good success for a couple of years, maybe a little more. They"ve been helpful twice when a seller didn"t deliver as promised and they"ve give me my money right back. Then I guess they went after the seller to get their money. I get phishing letters almost every day. I don"t even bother to read them, just forward them to PayPal. I wish they could get that chit stopped but I guess it"s real tough. Anyway, PayPal has worked great for me as both a buyer and seller.

I joined ebay a year or so ago and was going to use PayPal till I read their conditions....took awhile as their Philadelphia lawyers must have been very busy covering all the gotchas.

I didn't like how the table was tilted in their favor and didn't join.

Not sorry.

Hey ya Mark. I don't use it much myself. Less than a handful of times in the past couple of years. I don't even go to Ebay much. Is good for some things, hard to find shifter boots, stuff like that. Was gonna look there for a couple of shop manuals.

By the way, got emailed by the local Deere guy about Harvest time deals. Get a free gallon Deere cooler if I spend $200. Will stop in and see what kind've deal have on hog blades, but not for the cooler. LOL.

You'd think he would be advertising in the off season; not when you need to be in the field.

ya and there are those like the email I got yesterday. A guy wanted me to sell for him on ebay. He would buy from a wholesaler and have me sell for a percentage. Now why would I want to do that? Me thinks he is tying to launder stolen money. When he gets caught I would go to jail. No thanks, I added him to my "blocked sender" list

You also have to be careful when they accually are from Paypal as well. I accually did get one from them as Dear Sir or Madam, but it was just solicitation to join PayPal,and I thought I would be a smartA$$ and fill in some junk thinking it was a scam.I put like yomama@kissmybutt.dum or something like that nad a fake name and stuff, you know, just messing with it.Well as it turned out,it was legit and paypal sent me a thing later that morning about it so I knew it as real. Then I calle dthem and explained what I had did,the gaL just LAUGHED and appologized for them sending it to me.

One of the two items listed in my past year's history at PayPal was my annual subscription membership to Kim's YT to help keep it going. Thanks Kim.
