I"m really "green" to tractors - fell for an 8N to use to help clear & build a house on 14 acres here in B"ham Al... Can somebody help me with the diff btw the 8N and the 8N-B? I know the "B" has 10 gears... any value difference considering all else the same?

"8NB" is the engine block casting number on later serial number 8N's, factory-equipped with a side-mount distributor.

ALL factory-original 8N's are 4- speeds forward, 1- speed reverse.

There were various 2 or 3 speed auxillary transmissions to double or triple the available speeds, but they were after-market add-ons, and not factory equipment.

Never heard of an 8N-B and all N series tractors had either 3 or 4 speeds with the possibiltie of a over or over-under drive added later. The 10 speed is a SOS transmission and did not come along till the 6X1-8X1 series tractors
