Look for a sign of wettness around where the accelerator cable is connected to the injection pump. Look hard at the side where the return spring is. Right after you shut it off and it is still hot, then look around that area and move the accelerator linkage back and forth and wiggle it, trying to get it to leak.
If fuel can come out of the bushings there then air can get in.

Don't use ether in them unless you disable the glow plug system. If you haven't damaged anything yet your glow plugs probabaly aren't working that's why it won't start.

Pull wires off glow plugs and check for a light with test light with key on. Next check for continuity with test light. Put clip on glow plug terminal then put point into wire end. Keep in mind there is a timer in the glow circuit, so you will have to turn key on and off several times to do these tests. If there is no power at wire ends at all, check timer for open condition.. For cripes sake don't use starting fluid.....

Ether is pretty hard on smaler engines .I have older GM 6.2 that gives me fits once in awhile when cold .I use WD 40 instead of ether ,,less volitol and lil bit of lubrication to it .Not near the knocking and banging from ether. But ,,,if glow plug system is working right , they should start pretty good !!!!

Unplug all glo plugs, attach test light clip to glo plug terminal end, touch point of test lite to postive post of battery, no light, bad glo plug. no need to turn ign. on and off.

My 89 250 with the 7.3 would eat glow plugs the only plugs that would hold up were the Ford O.E. plugs NAPA or any of the others would not do the job

Bill, I have a 93 F350 with the 7.3, I have never had any problems so far with starting or with the glo plugs. The plugs have been changed a few times, because I thought they needed to be changed, the controler came on the truck. I also keep good hot batteries and an up to snuff starter on it. Old weak batteries and a weak starter will cause problems that don't end after their replacement. And you are right, always get the good stuff..

Chris, your last post helps more than you think, If you can just keep spinning the engine untill it starts, then the engine is not in bad shape. Sounds like you are losing the prime in the injector pump. Look at the fuel pump on the right front of the engine, if its wet, this may be your problem. When the fuel pump leaks fuel, it will drain the injector pump. and you still need to check the glo plugs.
