i bought hay from my neighbor for the past couple of years. last year he decided he wasnt going to cut any more. my friend jack had 5 fields that my friend used to cut. i asked jack who was going to cut them, he didnt know so i asked if i could have the hay. i said if i couldnt find some to cut them i would bush hog them (he just wanted them cut) i went to a guy up the way who was getting into the hay business, we went to look at them and he said ok. the deal was i get 100 bales from the first field (free) and he gets the rest.all told he got about 800-900 bales from the cutting. he was happy & i was happy. now come late june he hadnt started to cut so i goto see him and now he has a different deal for me. apparently he feels the fields are his and now i have to pay for the hay. i said he-l no and agreed to work something out. (help him cut-bale anything.) he said we will work some thing out. well its the end of july and its not cut yet. i went to see him last week told his wife to have him call me.im still waiting. to be honest about this he did lime & fert. and i would have agreed to pay some of the cost. question 1= was i wrong to believe the same deal should apply? quest.2= can i legally just go and bush hog everyting? soory this post is so long but this is bugging me. i believe a deal is a deal and if you have a problem get together and work it out. all opinons wanted even those that think im wrong.. thanks bill

I think that you need to talk to Jack, he owns the land right? I own a hayfield that a friend gets free hay off of but has someone bale it for him.

The guy that cuts and bales gets half the first cut, "all" the rest goes to my friend. The guy that does hay has tried to make deals around my friend, may have happened to you.

Sounds like Frank may have been doing you a favor, don't confuse that with entitlement. You know, Frank let you do your thing while he thought things out, now he's made up his mind and moved on with buisness....again, talk to Jack.

I think Jack should be getting 1/2 the hay made, minus around 1/2 the fertilizing costs.

Not sure why you are involved in the deal at all, you got a 100 bale commision for doing nothing so far.

The deal seems very complex, I see your point, I see the baler's point. Without anything on paper, you are in a difficult spot to get anything, as you don't own the land, don't do any of the work, didn't pay for any of the fert.

The other fellow is figuring you got the 100 bales free agreed to, and the rest of the year's crop is his. You were thinking a 100 bales each & every cutting.

Just a confusion in terms. Better luck next year?

Usually now days a "deal is a deal" as long as it's in your favor. Sometimes circumstances change and so does memory and the "deal". Your agreement appears to be somewhat convoluted anyway so maybe you should go back and see if Jack has had some conversations with the baler. It would appear to me that you were wanting a "Comission" in the form of hay for some unspecified labor. Good luck on this one..

Well if you own or lease the fields there your to do as you want. Also now days you need to make deals on paper seems people forget what they have agreed to do a lot now days.
