Hi Guys,

Went out, yanked the weights off the tractor and greased up the disc so it is all ready to roll.

Every darned time I look at this field however, it seems the disc looks smaller and smaller to me. :>(

Derned sunflowers are a boilin' up out of the ground tho; hope I can resist the urge for a few more days yet, so that I can really get a good kill and conserve moisture too.

Might know a guy with red tractors would have a red disc to go along with his red plow that doesn't know which end is up . LOL

Hey Allan, build a double drag out of telephone poles 18 inches wider than the disc and hang it behind it. It will start looking a lot bigger. My 756D on a 10 tooth chisel plow will use 4 gal per hr.

Let's see if it takes me 4-5 hours to do a 36 acre field with a Krause 400 (14 foot disc) it shoule make a real long day to do 70 acres.
Oh yeah I pull it with the right color green--Oliver.

Hey Allan! Is that a 470 model disc? You will be surprised once you get rolling at how much dirt can be turned if you take your lunch box with you and a jug full of ice water. Maybe drag an old bed spring or two behind the disc to help seal up the ground and then spread out on the springs under a shade tree( if you have any of those) for a quick cat nap!! Just don't bother the wildlife OK? Migraine

Hi Guy,

No, it is a little 14' 370 that I bought on a whim one day, long before we bought the place, just 'cause my dad used to have one just like it.

I'll just have to see how that 70 acre field treats it, I guess. I know right where there is an 18 foot 470 with 20" blades that might fit this little operation a bit better.

Dunno yet; still on this silly "re-learning" curve. :>)

IB,

Plow is setting there waiting for the prior owners to remove about 30 stacks of grass hay.

Also, need a rain to soften up the sod a bit. :>)

Allan;

Not only will the disk get smaller as the day wears on the tractor will slow down alot also. I assume you will be using 1 and hi with the TA ahead and the engine at about 2000 rpm.
Best thing to do is keep the ampacity in balance.

Yeah,

It is that darned ampacity that really has me worried. :>)

No, the 686 is just a newer version of the old 656/666 so it only has 5 gears. Really anxious to see if the 310 German sips the fuel as cheaply as everyone says.

Other than bein' just a tad on the loud side, this little tractor has kinda become more or less my favorite. :>)

OK then,probably use 2nd. My 706 310 ger.was pretty miserly on fuel.

Have fun, keep cool and stay careful.

Hey feller, now that I see that thing, get yourself a couple of 55 gallon drums, lay them on the disc on the weight racks, and fill them up with water. You can't imagine what an extra thousand pounds will do for that rig. Makes her bite the ground. Had one I pulled with a 560 gasser that had a 706 291 in it when I got it, and talk about a barker. 5-inch chrome truck pipe and you could hear it a mile away. Sold it to Dad when I got out and the first thing he did was take the pipe off and put a muffler on it. Just killed the thing, but it was his. Anywho, put water in drums on that disc and she just sucked through stalk stubble in Iowa dirt. Try it, you'll like it, Harley
