Am considering purchasing a 83-84 3610 ford. What kind of pto clutch does this tractor have?
To put the pto in gear I have to kill the motor. When you start the motor the pto runs. Pushing the clutch pedal in does not stop it. I don't think this is right. Anyone out there know how it works? Please let me know, thanks.

You might have a live pto which is not activated by the clutch, by hydraulic fluid. It has a separate pump and when you pull the lever FORWARD (Clue as to Ind as others you push back), it activates a hydraulic pump which releases the shaft brake and provides pressure to the clutches (pto) and makes her turn. Moving the lever back shuts off the pump and that allows the brake to activate and stop it from spinning.

The word "Live" in the first sentence should be "Independent", meaning it is independent of all other tractor functions except the engine, of course, has to be running.

Sorry for the error.
