Any body can post link to picture for 63 Fordson Dextra. Is Fordson Dextra connected to Ford - NH? About how heavy is this tractor and roughly the PTO HP? Are repair part readily available?

We had a Dexta when I was younger, but sold it many years ago. They were a great little tractor for their size, and a good deal more refined than the American built Ford's of that vintage. Ours was a '64, gas, 6 speed, live PTO, Live hyd. Although ours did not have aux. hydraulics, it did have an aux services control valve under the seat. This was a valve with a black knob, that was pulled out, and could divert oil to a remote valve, if one was fitted. Simply had to remove a plug on the ASC valve body to get flow, install a valve, and then divert the return to the sump. We just never had a need.
From what I remember of the tractor, it did steer heavy, and would run hot because the rad would jam up with dirt easily. It was quite easy on gas compared to our 860, had vastly better hydraulics, had better gearing (actually had a road gear), and had better balance. It was physically larger than the 860, weighed more, and had more ability to carry a load on the 3-point without upending.
Sadly, it was lack of parts availability that did the old girl in. Couldn't get ignition parts locally. We sold it to a friend, and he ended up sourcing parts from a friend in Scotland. So, I think they are great little tractors, but be vary careful of the parts situation. You could easily end up with something that you can't fix, or will be waiting endlessly for parts to arrive. Best of luck.

I have a '63 Super Dexta. I don't have any pictures to post. Fordson was the English branch of Ford. You would go to a New Holland dealer for parts. However, not all parts are available. I'm not sure of the weight, but physically they are the size of an 8N Ford. They have 37 PTO HP. I do not know if any have power steering, but most do not. Mine doesn't have PS and it steers much harder than an 8N. The spacing on the belly is tight and they are difficult to mount and dismount. They have live hyd. and PTO. They have good power for their size. In this country (USA) they are rare. So there are not many after market options. I like mine and I think it is a good tractor. But my advice would be to let the Dexta's to collectors. Parts are readily available for other Ford tractors of that vintage, and the prices are similiar. Hope this helps.

I asked the owner, the original buyer's son, about power steering. As you say nope.

No, remote hyduallics either.

He says it has 1800 original hours on it, excellant rubber, and always garaged. He's asking $4000 in the St. Louis paper.

The price in the paper said $1800 but when called it changed to $4000. At $1800 I might have bought it. Three cylinder diesel would be handy. My 59 ford would probably have a similar design and old enough that you can still work on it.

I found a picture of a Fordson on google.

I'll keep looking for a loaded ford 4000.
