Looking at a 720 JD. The power steering seems a lot harder than my 520 to turn. I was wondering if the parts are easily gotten or if they are hard to get, does any one know? Is there a common problem with the steering? The book list several things that could be wrong but would like to start at the weakest point if there is one. Thanks in advance. Sam

There are more Deere specialists over at the Deere section of this site. The power steering is working under more weight with a 720 than a 520. What front end is under each tractor? Have you opened up the flow control valve? Before ripping it all apart. Get the operators, general service, power steering service and parts manual from 1-800-522-7448. It's cheaper and faster in the long run. The PS may only need adjustment or perhapes a pump rebuild?

If it's all original it likley needs a complete going through. Having said that , try...
Make sure it has enough fluid ( john deere power steering fluid).
mess atound with the adjusting screww in the front of the worm and sector unit.
any other adjustments the book suggests.
After that you will need to start fixing things like the pump and the seals in the pedestal.
I had my 730 gone through by someone who knew the system and it works good now.
