601 workmaster

I have a ford 601 workmaster (gas). I have replaced the plugs, wires, points and coil.

The problem I am having is after running for a while, it begins to skip and run rough. I have checked and cleaned the fuel glass bowel and it will run fine for a little while and start to run rough again.

If I have trash in the fuel lines or gas tank how do I fix this? Do I get a gas tank liner, and are they hard to install? Help!

I'm running a member of the 601 family. The fuel system is inclined to get gummed up. An old timer told me to blow compressed air up that line that runs to the shut off valve.

Might not be fuel or ignition related. When was the last time the valve clearance was checked and adjusted?

Well, that's an interesting thought as valves expand with temp (get longer)and could create a problem hot and not cold.

I don"t know about your tractor but I have removed the tank and used gas and diesel fuel to clean out. If it"s not a fuel problem I have seen worn distributor do the same type of thing, run good then bad then good again as the shaft wobbles around.

Just adding ideas. If it is a wobbler, it should wobble all the time and cause the problem all the time, not just after it warms up wouldn't you think?

Yea. You're right. I had a wood spitter with an old Willys eng and it did that and would start popping as soon as I put a load on it

I never had a problem with one cause I always change it with points but I have read a lot of yakin on here about a bad condenser doing just that when it got hot. It would apparently short out or "spark" which is an intermittent short and this short bypasses the points. Every time the points are bypassed, you miss that blast of whoopie to the plug supposedly getting it and it is a misfire.

The other problem is fuel starvation which could be dirt in the line or could be a non-vented fuel cap. Cap is easy to check. When missing, just raise the hood and remove the fuel tank cap. If you hear a whoosh, you have your problem.

There is a screen at the bottom of the tank where the fuel leaves. Visual inspection would reveal whether or not it is clogged as you can see it looking down thru the fuel tank fill hole. There is a screw in the top that can be carefully removed and it can be extracted, cleaned and replaced.

Give that a go and get back.
