Hey Guys,

It happened all of a sudden like.

One minute the tractor was fine, runnin' round the yard like nobody's business, the next after I hooked it up to the implement, seems like it won't pull anymore and the derned hydraulics won't lift like it should.

Derned if I can figure out what's wrong. :>(

(hee, hee. Love my own jokes!) :>)

Well, looks to me you need to put some more weight on those rear tires. (also you might want to consider some weight on the front, beef up the frame, maybe a heavier tranny and a bigger engine)

And here I thought for a minute that I wasn"t the only one with machinery issues. Thanks for gettin my hopes up Allan :( My luck has just plain run out as far as farming. My R is still in the shop, my first crop of alfalfa was lost after mechanical issues kept me out of the field until rain hit, my orchard grass was lost due to a weed infestation, my baler is broke down with over 400.00 in new parts already in it, my mowing tractor now has a shot governor and a bad magneto, my raking tractor is having distributor issues, I"m going to lose over 1300.00 in fertilizer alone on just that little 16 acre patch of orchard grass, I may have just blown a head gasket on my baling tractor (due to a fast radiator leak), I can"t afford decent hay equipment, my family and friends think I am wasting my life because I want to farm some, and I am now putting in for a weather job in South Dakota (I live in S. Ohio) so I can make everyone happy by abandoning my grandad"s farm (just been in the family for around 5 generations so no big deal, right?). I"d love to have problems like that little "H", Allan. You are blessed.

OUCH!!! I've got my fingers crossed for you. It's hard to deal with those kinds of obsticles. And when the family and friends start second guessing you, you don't need that - Kind of lights a fire under you, but makes you a "little snappy", which leads to handing out apologies, which aint fun either. I can do Joliet to Bristol in about 2.5 hours every Friday night, and back every Sunday night, but has been as bad as 4 hours - then I'm bouncing around inside the cab of the truck. South Dakota to Southern Ohio? Youch. Grandpa's farm - God love you. All the backup tractors down too. You'll get them back together, because you have no choice, and it has to get done. And the Deere guy aint cheap - mine's tipping the scale at $4K right now in parts and labor, because I figured with my time would take me a month of weekends to split her out and fix, and that's out-of-field time I'm couldn't afford. It's been longer than that at the Deere guys place, and I don't even stop in to look at it or call him anymore. Split, put back together, split again last I saw it. When your flagship is down, you'll find a way to piece them backups back together. Can get a lot of help on these boards. Mortgage and bills in Bristol, work and rent in Illinois, not much time, and at least $4K (unexpected) going out to the Deere guy soon. ????? ????

Don't give up on yourself Old Fashioned, even if everyone else start second guessing you. Watch snapping on them though, for they do not understand. Never know how these things will work out. I sure don't, and I aint changing anything for anyone. Good thing I'm not married - she'd have clubbed me with a skillet and left me by now.

Mark

A little bit of faith olde in reply to old fashioned farmer, 07-06-2005 20:31:09
Ouch! All I can say is, O.F.F. You seem to be a man of faith. I know Allen , myself and many others on this board have been in similar pickles. You do the best you know how with what you know how to use. When or if you have to move on it is heart breaking and generaly a huge ife changing event. I believe that at some time in every ones life there is a period that must be confronted by wandering in the desert. Try to think of it as adventure and a period of new opportunity. When you emerge you will be stronger and better for having been there. It is hard to see right now but there are so many better days ahead. Allen, I am sure never figured he would be a computer nerd : ?) I myself have held down so many different jobs in my own personal wilderness that I was so confused and lost I about give up on everything. One day I woke up and found myself staring at the place I am at now. I wandered out with a wonderful wife, lots of different experiences and skills that were perfectly suited for this life I enjoy now. A wise man once said to me " It sure does seem to be someone pulling the strings" I believe there is and I think you do too. If you do decide to take a trip to SD stop by. You will be going right past my front door and we'll talk old grease and share a soda or two. You know there is farm ground to be had in SD...

Back when I was farming we pulled five bottom rig just like that but 21"ers with a super C. Now we use articulating garden tractors can't mow efficiently with out one. Usta harvest 83 Jackrabbits an acre "Without" irrigating too! Wake up and smell the outhouse Allen!! There is a time and a place for everything! Why do you think they made the movie Barbarella!! I didn't mean to offend anyone just thought that ought to be said.

It may do a little better, if you start the motor, so that flipper on top of the smoker is open.

Allan,
I still think you should install some kind of gear box to that plow and run it off your PTO - man, you could till some ground with that rig!!

Allan, now what did you go and do that for? You are gonna give that fine H an inferiority complex. And you know full well that pound for pound, that little tractor has nothing to be ashamed of. I did like the joke though. Carry on.

You are sooo not right. But I like the thought. Now ifn you would just install a three point on the H.... Oh well. I know you are new to the farming business, and it'll take you a little time, but I know you'll get the hang of it, just keep at it. H and a 4 bottom turner. I just can't figure out anything you could hang on the little girl to make that work. Harley
