OK - what's a "pirogue"? I can't even pronounse it, let alone know what it is! Being from a flatland, midwestern state (Nebraska), where the nearest lake that is over 3 feet deep and more than 150' across, is a 1/2 days drive away - I ain't up on fishin'.

Hello Galen;
You did notice that everyone from the south knew what I was talking about. LOL!!!!! !!!

A pirogue (pee-row) is a canoe. The difference is a pirogue has a flat bottom instead of a rounded bottom of a canoe.

This allows it to go in a lot shallower water than a canoe. It is also a lot easier to turn over than a canoe because of the flat bottom.

A pirogue is used for duck hunting. Nothing like getting in a boat that is very easy to turn over with a dog.

Hey Galen;A pirogue is a Cajun canoe.Works real well in shallow water,3' and less.One of Louisiana's dept. of tourism slogans used to be "come visit Louisiana and see things you've never said before".Kenny

John - Glad to hear your Mom does NOT have cancer, wishing her well!

Now, as to that pirogue - I do have a 12' jon boat that may help as needed! This season is to be equal to or worse than last yr. Take care and keep safe this storm season.

Good luck John, that is the one thing that I do not miss about Louisiana. Put up with the hurricanes for 40 years. I'm from just south of BR, I miss everything but the storms.

This one is not that bad.
A little rain
A little flooding in low areas
A little wind (40 to 60 mph)

The one I am really looking at right now is Dennis.

Yeah, we´re watching down here, too. This looks like a repeat of the last two years and those poor folks in western Cuba appear to be bullseye again.
