I'm looking for parts to convert over to V8 flat head Ford in my stepfather's 8N Ford. A friend gave him the motor and he's thinks that the tractor should be a good place for it! So if someone get me headed in the right direction I would be thankful. Sounds like fun!! Thanks PHR

I have seen two of these conversions. It is more than a simple bolt on affair. An adapter to the trans is required if memory is correct. There is conflict with the gas tank and carb for space. The front axle has to be supported and the water pumps on the v-8 modified. I would use a v-8 with the distributor mounted on the side. I have a car with an 85 Hp flathead and it is hard to start. I suggest going to 12 volts. You can get a modern electronic distributor and conventional coil to fit the flathead from one of the flathead speed shops. I suggest that you thoroughly check out the engine before starting the project. Parts are available but expensive. I buy parts from Dennis Carpenter Reproductions @ 704 786 8139. This company has lots of new old stock as well as repro. May luck be with you

PHR-What you will need is a Funk's conversion kit,Stafford Ford in Portland Ind. was reproducing these conversion kits ,but the other day when I went to the Portland Ind. swap meet the Dealer looked like they moved or went out of business, maybe someone that lives in that area can tell us where they went to,or how to find these kits. I've seen somethat had been converted boy they make and interesting conversation piece. I've just recently seen a 8n six cylinder conversion on the board for sale. There's some very knowledgable people out there someone will help us in finding these kits. wish I could have more info. gman

The kits are readily available and easily bolted together just call or email.I will be at Portland as usual ,everyone gets moved around over there due to the expansion of the show grounds.937-497-9447

Seems like Sherman used to make that kit too, but maybe I'm wrong.

I've seen pictures of those things and wondered how well the rear ends held up.

We had a local guy who put in a lot of V-8's and 6cyl's in 8N's.My father-in-law said that he just bolted in and that was all he did.
