Hi, getting ready to combine wheat...my AC in the 1976 JD 4400 Diesel doesnt run cold...it is the R-12 system. I have 1 can of R-12 left. I'm sure the system leaks, somewhere. I am wondering if I should put that one can of R-12 in there - or - should I convert to R-134 and use some stopleak with the fluid....
I plan to convert, but do they convert as easily as the cars made in the early 90's? Can I get these fittings at Autozone, like I did for my car?

Thanks!

First of all, do not use any freon with stop leak in it. Most service people won't even touch it if they know stop leak has been installed in a system.Freon leaks are usually found by finding where the oil in the freon has leaked out.One of the most likely places on that combine is the hose to or from the condenser in front of the radiator. You will probably have to get the conversion fitting for the compressor from Deere.I have not found a retro kit that has the right fittings for a Deere. They are nice brass ones, not he aluminum ones in the kits.I would go ahead and buy the kit since it should contain both the R134A and the oil and is usually cheaper that way.Locate and repair the leak, replace the receiver drier, vacuum the system down and add the oil and freon.

they convert the same way as a car does.uses the same parts, however since you already have the r12 why not use it,you can also use freeze 12 it will mix with r12,freeze 12 is only 8.00a can 134 has gone to 12,88 a can
