Just wondering what the going price is on small square bales of good grass hay. I normally only bale enough for myself, but this year, I"m already over what I need. The stuff I"ve been baling is good grass hay, and put up right with no rain on it. I"m in central MN if the price varies in different areas. Any ideas would be appreciated, since I haven"t really sold or bought any hay, just made enough for my own use.
Thanks Brokenwrench

I also forgot to mention the hay that has been shipped in semi van trailers was anywhere from $7.50 to $12.00 bale. the on trailers prices mention in prior post is at the field. delivered is more and at the barn is more.

Going rate for good horse hay in my area is anywhere from 1.50 to 2.00 per bale in western NY. At least thats what neighbors and I pay, last year it was 1.25/bale. These are probably a 60 lb bale.

all small squares $3.50 off the trailers.
small square straw$3.00 off the trailers. nothing leaves the farm less than $2.50.
If I touch bale after field trailers it is 50 cents each time more. Large rounds 35 to 50 dollars bale. Don't try to have these if don't have to as it is not the way to sell hay in my experience. This is usually my junk stuff at times which we all have. So far I am already sold out darn it. Eye appeall and word of mouth is best selling tools you can have and the most important one BE HONEST. If you have bad hay then say so etc.

Hey Brokenwrench.
I sell hay in MN. Price does vary some. I sell most for $3 a bale grass delivered, for no rain.
Other hay with some rain.. What ever $2 or so some for $1.50 depending.

Price may change some as a few guys got froze out last winter. Alfalfa may bring a good price in the fall.

You all woke me up alittle bit. I was thinking $2.00 per bale was gonna be too high. This stuff is excellent horse hay. Thanks again for all the insight. Brokenwrench

Too bad you are not closer to California. the feed stores here on the west coast get around 12.00 a bale. Average weight 75 to 95 lbs. That is for good clean horse hay. Stan in calif.

Depends on if its "horse hay" or if it is cattle hay. Big difference in some peoples pocket books.

Around here hay prices can vary with the weather. At the height of the drought, good hay was $4 - $5 bale on the ground. Now it's about $2 - $2.50 per bale. Check your local classified ads and see what others are advertising.

In upstate NY good first cutting has been $110-120/ton. Last year good second cut grass brought$130/ ton. Prices at the barn, wire bales 50-60lbs. Price per bale depends some on bale weight.
