O.T. lawn mower won't stay running

I've got a briggs-stratton quantum lawn mower. It will run if I prime it for about 2-3 seconds, then die. It'll start right back up if I prime it again, but then die. I've cleaned out the carb the best I can without removing it. I've run a wire through the jet, the float seems to move freely as well as the needle valve. Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks in advance

(1) If you have gas in the bowl then you need to just remove the nut that holds the bowl on. Then look for a small jet in the threads of the nut or somewhere on it that lets the gas through it. Once you take a needle and clean this out I would bet that it runs.

Is it garaged? Did you take the bowl off the carb and check for water? Is fuel getting through your filter to the carb?

Dave,

I think that Sloroll is right on. You obviously are not getting gas through your main jet into the engine. The primer uses a separate circuit in the carburetor to get a little bit of gas into the intake port, but then the engine relies on gas getting to it through the main jet. You probably need to remove the carburetor bowl and see that a steady flow of gas is coming to it from the gas tank. If it is, then the main jet circuit must be clogged. If it isn't, then the inlet to the carburetor through the float valve must be clogged.

In either case, the main jet circuit doesn't seem to be working right.

Good luck,

I'm getting plenty of gas out of the carb bowl, I've taken it off with the gas tank still hooked up and had a steady stream. I didn't see a filter, and it's stored inside. I'll try taking it off the mower and look up inside the needle area for a clog. I've cleaned out the eensy-weensy jet that is visible from the side of the carb when installed already.
Thanks.

you need to get that carb taken off and stripped down on a bench. take out all the needles you can. make sure you get the main that runs up the middle, and clean everything. good luck. perry in mi

you may think i am nuts but does this quantum have a element type air filter in front of the carb.? if so remove it & see if it runs .sometime they get coated with oil it more or less smothers the carb out
