I started mowing today, (saturday) things were going real well, weeds were dry and cutting up good. Then I herd a not so good sound, like air leaving my rear tire real fast. I ran over a piece of iron sticking out of cement. Replaced my rear tire with a spare I had, and in a couple hours I was cutting weeds again. How was your day?,Stan in calif

Not to bad. Went to an auction and got some more junk.

Got a fast hitch disk for my 400. Been hunting for one of those for a wile. Thats to go along with the nice 3 bottom fast hitch plow I have to make a Wisc run to go get.

Got a old NH 461 Haybine to mess with. See if I can make her work. 3 auction numbers on her so a few have tried and failed. Cheap enough so if not I will have a real nice set of rollers for sale and the wobble will fit my NH469.

Also got a complete set of floor chains for a NH 850 chain baler for $15. Just in case, but am sure the chain that breaks will be the one I dont have a spare for.

Also snabbed up a 10 foot Minneapolis Moline, double disk grain drill w/ grass seed option. For $150 has all the tubes and stuff. Will see.

Wife showed up and ran me off before I brung home any more junk.

Drove by my hay field with the Oats cover. Time to get the 469 out there and cut some oats hay, fast. Be bringing that home today.

Yesterday I was going to try to finish mowing the woods. Went up there, tractor wouldn't start, so we ended up lopping down a tree. Good day for me.

Was really nice. Now that 1st cutting hayin is over with, it's nice and sunny.....when you wanted it to be sunny when you were harvesting and want rain for regrowth.

Funny year here. Real wet spring but it is already dry in June. July and Aug may be some real bummers. But you never know. Weather is what keeps us all guessing.

Glad you got back up and running. Hope the tire is repairable.

Hi Stan,

Tired and sore.

Cleared an area to park machinery in, but I stayed clear away from the corrals because I knew there would be old boards/nails lying around and didn't wanna suffer your fate.

The good news is that the darned old 310 engine has stopped it's nasty "smoking" habit and the exhaust pipe has turned a pretty grey color instead of the silly slobbering thing. Tractor is idleing in the picture and is clear as can be. :>)

Rained all night again here. Darnest year I can remember since the 50s.

Must be nice! We haven't got any rain for over 2 weeks! Rained 20 miles from here yesterday, but bone dry and 95 here.

You did it again Alan, you snuck in yet another picture of that beautiful tractor of yours (and the lovely setting that it's in). What are we going to do with you, you little rascal?

Hey MM!

That ain't the half of it, 'neither. I'm afraid there is more trouble on the way.

When I get that darned plow hooked up and going, I have a feelin' that old 966 will be pushin' it's self back into the pictures once again.

Gotta wait til the prior owners get their crop off, then I've got lots and lots of sod to turn. Hope these rains hold out 'til fall so I can get that plow to 'bite'. :>(

Hi Guy,

When I bought it, I had my old 656 in mind, which was a sweet little "all around" tractor.

I had no idea that the 310s were so darned loud when they are wound up. One of these days, I gotta stop and go buy those ear protectors; this thing sounds like my old 766 did. Ears are still ringing this morning. :>(

When I get it dualed up and in that wheat stubble, we're gonna find out if it has any "Real Umph". Now, I'm getting somewhat impatient to see the black smoke. :>)

You sure your not mistaken about that thing idleing here. Your exhaust cover would indicate its not running. Sure loks nice though. Just wondered.....

Hi Bob,

It was settin' there doing the "klickty klack" thing. Picture must have caught it right about at the 'klack'. It is open 'bout an inch or so.

It is sooooo o nice not to see that darned smoke anymore like it used to do! :>)

If your a normal farmer..you've only owned it 2 days and your all ready 2 weeks behind. Hasn't rained here for 2 weeks. Grass in NE Colo is best I have seen in my life time. Wheat harvest maybe by the Forth--early for here, but the new varities are earlier.
See: I got a tree in my pasture too. (If i can rememger how to do it)

What is that off on the horizon? Oh yeah, Nebraska! From the lay of the land I'd say you don't need internet to contact Allan....hand signals would probably work.

Man that IS flat!

Morning Ken,

Now, that is just plain sweet! Whooooeeyyy, it looks good down there this year!

Boy, I dunno. I think the wheat around here is gonna hit that 4th of July mark too; it's coming on fast.

I've got the fertilizer ordered and Monday I'm gonna order my first barrel of diesel. Have a feeling that it will rock my world when I see the statement on this. :>(

Waiting on bearings for the grain drill and can't do a thing more on it til Tuesday; so, maybe today I'll go drag that haybine home and tear into it.

Sounds like you are getting settled in your new 320 acres. Lotta land for hobbyin. Bet you're going to be working your skivvies off before all's said and done.

Went to an auction and it rained off and on for 2-3 hours. Spent $5 and got a bunch of small stuff and a 70# anvil. After the rain - then it turned of nasty hot and muggy..... ...

When I was stationed on the Mississippi gulf coast it would rain for about 15 min every afternoon. Don't need to tell you what summers were like.

Yup - I was stationed in North Carolina - NASTY muggy there! One Summer it rained every weekend from mid April to September - you could set your watch to it - 4pm Friday it would start, 4pm Sunday it would end! Only place I've ever been where it was so hot & muggy that it rained INSIDE the hanger!

Sounds like the weather in N. Texas when I used to fish. Every Friday a front would come through. Course the fish would get lock jaw just in time for the weeks working and awaiting the Sat morning fishing trip.

Then there were those outings on Easter weekend. Without fail, a storm would hit you just as you were in the middle of putting your tent up.

Well now I don't fish so all I have to do is worry about the weather's impact on my hayin operation which is sad at best right at the moment.

best,

Mark
