baled some hay last year and had it "sold". i didnt ask the guy to put any money down on it and no formal reciepts were exchanged. he never came to get it in the winter like he said he would and wont return calls now. so it looks like there is nothign i can do but grin and bear it. so now what do i do with the hay? i have tried taking some to a local auction but with the price of hay being down in my area and the cost of gas being high, then figure in the weighing fee, its not really worth my time to mess with it, not that i have time to anyway. i would like someone to take a lot at once like a big gooseneck load or a tractor trailer load so i dont have to spend that much more time with it. havent any luck locally so i was wondering if there was any other options. any suggestions?

Know what you"re up against - I have about 1500 bales I didn"t move this last winter. Looks like lots of work to pile this year"s crop up on top!

Old Saying ----- - "Old hay is old gold" ! I sold hay last year that was a good 20 yrs old. Sparse hay year here and this hay went to a 125 head buffalo cow herd. The buffalo cows are only fed old hay because they come into "heat" when fed good fresh hay.

Summer is a darn poor time to sell last years hay. I'd sit on it til winter. Store your new crop somewhere else if you are out of room. Or if you can sell the new crop right out of the field.

I would advertise it for feeder hay. I always buy last years hay since it is cheaper and really not that much lower in quality. If it is in a barn or tarped you shouldn't have any problems selling it.

If there are any feedlots in your area, they'll (or someone else) will buy it for grinding and mixing w/ better stuff. Won't bring top dollar, but it beats sitting at the edge of the field.

I had leftover hay several years in a row. I called a local construction company. They do highway and other road projects. They used it for mulch hay by loading it in a hay shooter. May not have pulled top dollar but moved alot in one sale. They bought from me twice by backing a semi trailer right under my barn door. I pitched it and they piled it. Smallest load they took from me was 300. They were willing to take all the trailer could hold.

there is about 6-700 bales of timothy/grass mix and about 4-500 bales of brome grass. all stored in barn no rain. numbers are just rough estimates had about 2500 been working it down little by little. located in PA email is open if you want more info.

Man, that's gotta hurt. 2500 bales around here will fetch a lot of green if you can sell it at the right time. I almost gave up on hay last year even with the price being high. High prices mean a lot of undercutting and your "promised" sales evaporate overnight leaving you with hay you could have sold if only you had known. 2500 is a lot of bales to "hold" on a person's word.

Yep 504- I'm sure glad my first cutting was all I'll require for winter(hopefully), there won't be much more it appears. Hang onto your hay until the coming winter, some of us may be calling.
