made hay on Father's day!

With the great help of my neighbors, we got my hay in on Sunday. Being Father's day, I got to do what I wanted- and there is not much I'd rather be doing that working my fields with antique farm machinery!

My neighbor cut the hay last week. I raked it with a New Holland rake and a 1950 John Deere AR. Then, I made a few square bales with his New Holland baler, again pulled by the AR. He baled the rest as round bales.

Boy that old AR is a sweet machine! What a great relaxing sound. I took the kids and even the wife for a ride on a few passes with the rake. They all loved it.

When pulling the baler, you can tell it is really working the tractor, and it sounds like its gonna stall out, but it just keeps chugging.

Hopefully my JD B's will be running by the time we do this next year and I can use my own tractors.

Since my little farm is just for fun, and I spend my days in an office, the opportunity to get out in the sun and do actual farm work on the weekends is a welcome recreation for me. I'm sure that if I had to do it to make a living, it would be a different story!

Funny, I was doing the same thing, thinking the same thing, and wondering just how many dads got to do just what they wanted to on that day.

Certainly enjoyed mine.

Having her "buy into" what you were doing just made it that much more special didn't it.

After all, Father's Day is code for "have it your way" that day. LOL.

I'm not a father, didn't get it my way.

LK,

I know where you are coming from. I've been trapped in an office for a long, long time myself.

Day before yesterday, I had to move an old grain drill quite a distance cross country. It was very, very hot and humid. I just shut off the air conditioner, rolled the windows down and enjoyed being able to enjoy the out of doors.

People think I'm nuts, but I too am about to tie into 320 acres just for the darned fun of it. :>)

Everybody knows the weird way I think, but I always said "If they ain't paying my way, I really don't care what they think" Seems to have always worked pretty well. Ifn they don't understand, it wouldn't do no good to explain it anyway. Git-er-done, Harley

Sounds like a great Father's Day - glad you enjoyed yourself. There's just something about the old machinery that I like as well. I guess it reminds me of my youth and all the men of the family working together towards a common end. You don't see that much anymore. Today it seems like it's "every man for himself". To bad we let Hollywood and TV define what a man is...
Even though you have a hobby farm, if you enjoy it - you're one of us!
