help with my tractor

I have a ford n positive ground tractor. Got it out to start brush hogging and started it up after I checked all the fluids and got around the field 2 and it started sputtering. I could only keep it running if I left the choke open. A half a trip around and I couldn't keep it going anymore. I cleaned out the fuel bowl and filter the next day (today) and started it up and started up the hill again, (choke open) and got to top and again sputtering. I cut the pto and tried to keep it running but no go. Starts runs a few minutes, the governor backs off and then it dies. Any ideas on what the problem is? I am going to try to flush the carb next to see if there is something blocking the line.

There are three separate screens in the fuel system to check. Here they are (coutesy of Ken"N"Texas).

Also, a bad condensor or coil, or ignition switch that is causing the spark to get weaker as it heats up can cause the need for more fuel to keep it running, until the spark is too weak, and then it will stall, not matter what.

Check the screens, and if it stops again, verify that it has a good spark while it's in "failure to start" mode. Take a spare spark plug, and bend it's gap open to about 3/16", connect it to one of the spark plug wires, and, with the test spark plug laying on metal, for grounding, crank over the engine, and verify that there's enough spark to jump that gap.

Thanks Bob,
I removed the line between the carb and the bowl and there was some sludge in there. I am going to keep checking the rest of the line, just to make sure that I got it all.

Thanks again for your suggestions and photos

I would follow the fuel supply as you are doing, can be many little nooks & crannies to stop your fuel flow when you need it, from the tank all the way to the main jet & all places in between.
