Allan, David Hobson, and others are to be credited for this idea more than I, but I don't want to see the idea fizzle without an effort made.
David mentioned in a post on the Farmall board that he might be willing to let us use his place for a get together of sorts for YT mag friends.
I, like many others, think the world of the good fellows on these boards, and I expect that there are many others (I'm a Farmall man, myself) who are good guys that I might not have run into. Well, this idea is just starting to form, and we won't necessarily hold David to it....but how about planning a get-together of sorts somewhere in the midwest. Maybe a two day affair, heck, who knows. Purpose of this post is to just get your opinions on where/when. Want to plan on doing it next spring or summer...or sooner? Or later? I just think it sure would be nice to get together and meet some of you fellers, break bread, have a few laughs. Would really shed a new light on this board. Heck, we could even give it a nickname like how woodstock did....
How bout "The Harvest".....from that old Little House on the Prarie episode "Harvest of Friends".
Am I being to sappy? Maybe. OK Fire Away!

I've often thought that Kim should sell some kind of simple polo shirt on the site with the ytmag logo on it and we could encourage each other to wear them to tractor shows.

Or maybe just some kind of simple pin.

I could've walked by tons of you guys at the last tractor show I was at.

Shirt idea, you mean like the shirts offered just above the red banner ribbon? Yup, they are already offered for sale.

Seems that I, too, continually use previously undiscovered features. There are so many that it is easy to miss them.

Brian,
I used to belong to a car club that would have a national get-together in a different part of the country every year. Each event was hosted by a different member with help from a core group. That way, we got to see different sites and eventually, eveybody had one close to home.

Sounds like a great idea, but trying to cover the whole country with one get to geather might be a dream.....to far for some to travel....Think about local chapters (100 mi. radus)..Meet bi mounthly..the same people wont be able to make every gathering....then a national anual meeting maybe at two or three locations....just food for thought..... Nebraska Cowman had a great possible location as an alternative. Either one would work great, give some "hospitality" info and we'll nail this venture down.

Hey Brian,

You just might be on to something big! I would like nothing better than to meet some of these guys face-to-face. "Specially than darn Allan character in NE!!!

Galen suggested Husker Harvest Days in Grand Island. Let's do it! Give some Hotel/Motel info and Rv camps in the area. About a 6 hour drive for me, but well worth the trip, I am sure.

Dug

BTW, you boys in the "mid-west" like Midwest Redneck better not start whining about the road trip... I expect you to be there!!!, no excuses!!!

Looking forward to a good time!

If a lot of work goes into the organization of the meetting I feel than towns would offer incentives to come to their area like they do conventions it would be a plus to any area encomomy in a couple of years this type of gathering could grow quite large.

I kinda like Nebraska Cowman's suggestion of using the church camp in central Nebraska. That puts it close enough for some of us Coloratters to show up. Gets 'spensive to go plumb across the country. I also like one of the suggestions to hold the get-together in a different region of the country each year. My .02 cents worth. Larry

So far, I've met about a dozen people in person that I have met first on these boards. First one I met was at Pioneer Park days in Zolfo Springs,FL. Then I started my own tractor show and have met a bunch that way (see Fawteen's post below). Last winter I met another one at the Florida Flywheelers and most recently, I was on a business trip to Omaha and met a guy from the Case board in Council Bluff, Iowa.
Went special to their homes to meet a couple of 'em. There's lots of good ways to do it. Here in the nawtheast, tractors ain't near as numerous as they are most other places. But we like 'em just as much.

Sounds like a good idea, and the midwest would be the best place for the gathering. I live in Michigan. I would think that the best place would be to have it in eastern Indiana, Of course it would have to be a Saturday in the fall I suppose, or spring. I think everybody should chime in and say what state they are in and we could all agree on a central location. I gave my opinion.

I like the idea ALOT. As already mentioned the TALERS do this now.

Maybe consider this as a twist given the distances some of live from one another -
make it a regional event then an annual event at KIM's place since she is the one that has enabled these great friendships.

i.e. NW, SE, NE, SW which should permit our Canadian brethern to join in for the Northern Tier. From there establish an annual at Kim's or somewhere in the middle like say KANSAS - oooh, Toto, I'm coming :)!

Maybe every 3rd yr. make the annual event a trek across the pond to Europe for those friends.

Just thinking out loud, unfortunately I will only be able to attend regional event(s) NW & SE then annually as $$ permit.

I'm a hillbilly from Bonners Ferry/Sandpoint ID originally. Does that count for anything? Perhaps not as I do not have web feet and would drown over on the coast :)

Was sent to this hot, flat, muggy, buggy, wet place by USN, have stayed on for past few as I did not like the idea of driving logging truck again. I come home in the fall to go elk hunting with my family.

Brian, I was thinking of some kind of off season tractoy guy gathering a while back. What about using a place like our local methodist camp at cozad Nebraaska, Camp Comeca
I believe they can sleep a couple hundred and they would have meeting and eating facilities without spending an arm and a leg. Als people could bring their campers. I'd do it in the fall maybe late October when many would be done with harvest and the weather is still nice.
I'm sure we get to brainstorming there are lots of places like that we could meet. And we need to keep the cost down. i suppose i think of things that work good for me but I know guys with familys like to travel in the summer when school is out. that could work too but it might be harder to find a place that wasn't already full. Of course you could all come here but you'd have to shake out your soogans on the ground! Maybe Allan did have a good idea meeting at the cafateria at Mt Rushmore.

Yes and no.

Mt Rushmore is a major tourist attraction and is just 16 miles out of Rapid City and I-90.

Trouble is, they open on Memorial day and close on Labor day, so 'spose the darned cafeteria would be off limits a lot of the year.

Another downside is that 16 mile winding climb up thru the hills on that ironhorse road.

The darned faces tend to stay there all the time, tho. :>)

Sounds like a great idea. I guess so long as it's a get together and not a show, you could have it at a park or fairgrounds. If it were a tractor show you might need a small town to fit everybody in. Seein as how I don't know a whole lot of locations outside of Oklahoma, I'll list one right here. The Oklahoma State Fair grounds, here in Oklahoma City. Several hotels located within 10 or 20 minutes of the place. Will Rogers World Airport not too far away either. Then there is I-35, I-40, and I-44 running right through here. But again, that's just here, might want to consider other places too.

Buncha folks from Tales have done this 2 or 3 years in a row, seems like they have a GREAT time.

Living up heah in the nawtheast, it's too far for me to make it, but I have been to a smaller version in Cow Hampshah and met 3 or 4 people from the boards. In fact, I'm going again this year.

I find that, so far at least, the folks I meet in person are just like they come across on the boards.

I'd say go for it, but keep it simple and don't turn it into a lot of work for a few folks.

I think the easy way to do what you are talking about is to tie this in with a number of tractor shows throughout the country. Just need to set up a ytmag area or tent. If you have one in each major area of the country people can attend without having to travel far or they can still travel if they want to.

Great thoughts so far...('cept for Allan...you are a real smart*** sometimes, ya know it?) ;)

I think the tent at tractor shows around the country is a great idea too. Would be easy enough to do it and I am sure Kim would show us how to post a schedule on the site somewhere.

I still think an annual gathering in one specific spot would be nice. Not that you should feel obligated to go, but I was thinking it would be nice to sit around a campfire and tell lies, etc.

Sounds great. We had a "bike rally" here on the farm last weekend and had about 40 people in and had a great time. I'm with Sloroll if he "knows" of a place centrally located with an airport, motels, on a major interstate, etc., etc., etc., We'd be in. Be a great ride on the bike. Gir-er-done, Harley

Would be a good opportunity to blow the spider webs off my 37 Indian Chief, but on the other hand it may be a little far living in Calif. It would be nice to have a get to gether somewhere. Stan

Brian, I never thought that a campfire was a prerequisite for a good lie. I thought all it took was lip movement. Seriously, an annual get together sounds like a winner, whether in and of itself or in conjunction with an existing show with a dedicated tent or shelter for the YT guys and gals. I say get-er-done.
