Okay, here's the scenerio, my boss is in his mid 80's. He still loves getting out there and doing the hay with me. But the past couple of years has seen a decline in his overall strength. His tractor of choice among what we have is a Ford 2110 and he has trouble with the clutch after a few hours. Leg just gets too tired. He is also starting to have trouble getting up onto it and down from it. This is very frustrating for him and I'm trying to find a way to keep him going. I had mentioned to him that a hydrostatic drive type compact tractor might be the ticket. Thing is, I'm not up on what would be the best one to check into. I'm not color blind, so am open to all suggestions. Small is fine. All he needs is something that will work with a NH 5 foot sickle bar, NH 256 Rolabar rake, and a 4 foot brush hog. I looked at a small Farmpro yesterday and liked what I saw, but would like opinions from you folks. By the way, I did check with the NH dealer and the prices made me back away real quick, so alternatives is what I'm checking into here. Thanks, Ron

84 yr old neighbor sold me his two 630 JD's and got himself a select-o-speed ford and loves it. He's looking for a second SOS.

Ron: Do know anyone who can maintain a Select-O-Speed? If only that had been a reliable transmission it would be made to order for your friend. Small "clutch" pedal that is so easy to push you can't even feel it. Add power steering and you're in business. But..... ...

Could you weaken the clutch spring so it's not too stiff and add a step or two to his old Ford - much cheaper than a diff tractor. Just a thought...

I've already "softened" the clutch quite a bit last year. I think it's the repetition that's getting to him. The extra step might help, but it wouldn't help with the other issue. But I do appreciate your comments.

An extra step would work fine. Did for me anyway. Made one out of 1" conduit.
