I need to replace the rear u-joint on the driveline. How much trouble is this gonna be?? Any special tools?? Does the whole driveline have to be removed?? Any suggestions?? Thanks, Casey

No big deal just done mine a little heat is all that is needed and check carrier bearing while you have it apart , and the drive shaft has a notch in it so it only goes back together 1 WAY so don"t fight it and the joints are only $8.00 each so replace them all at once and you never have to mess with it again and the new joints have grease zerks have fun.

If you are sure it is the rear ujoint, it's gonna be some fun. The factory uses liquid nylon injected ujoints from the factory. The only way to get them out is to get the yoke of the driveshaft hot enough that the nylon comes out of the holes in the yoke on the driveshaft. You don't need oxygen, but it would help make the process alittle faster. If you look at the yoke on the driveshaft you will see a little like plastic tab or dot, this is where the nylon will come out of and where it is injected from the factory. Replacement ujoints use C-clips on the inside of the yoke so no need to worry there. As for once you get the nylon out of both sides you can use a socket if you don't have a press and just knock the ujoint out of the driveshaft yoke. A press would be the better way to go, but a socket and a BFH have worked for me in the past. You just have to get a larger socket so the ujoint cup will fall into the socket or pipe on the bottom to support the other side of the yoke. I hope this makes some sense. Best of luck

Jason is right They are a sumbit to do. Heat the heck out of it stinks something fierce. I did one one a S-10 Blazer. I had a press and heat it was still tough going.

Aw, nothin' to 'em

Use your welding tip and slowly heat the yoke just around the cap. The teflon will roll outta there like a worm.

When it doesn't come out anymore, knock the fire outta it like any other u-joint.

Don't heat it too fast or it will explode and shoot that cap across the shop like a bullet.
