Truck Driveshaft Question

I'm putting a Spicer 3 speed aux. transmission into my F-600 Service truck. Question is: I've got a near fortune tied up into replacing the main transmission , clutch , and aux. trans..I'm building my own driveshafts. The truck originally came with 1410 universal joints. The transmission and rear end are this size. The aux. trans has 1810 joints. I got a driveshaft from a local boneyard to fit the 1810 flanges on the aux trans. I built the front shaft with an adapter to join the 2 different shafts together, It worked excellent. The rear shaft can be built the same way except for the fact that the slip yoke will have to be on the rear of the driveshaft. Does this make a difference?? I'd like to save from buying another shaft if possible. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

It shouldn't make ANY difference at which end of the driveshaft the slip yoke is located. I've seen any number of pickups over the years that have had the rear driveshafts swapped one way or the other, with no ill effects, and I can't see why it would be any different on your truck.

I don't have their number close but you should be able to get with information and get the number for a place called Universal Service in Charlotte, NC. Drivelines and driveline comonents are all these guys do, and their good at their job..... If there is one available they should be able to get you a cross that will adapt one size yoke to the other. With an adapter you don't have to go through all the trouble of mixing and matching and swaping ends with other parts to make it work. I know the ones you've got are a little larger than what you'd find on a passanger car but they got one for me years ago to adapt my oem driveline to a rear out of a different car. It's a strange looking cross with the two sides being different than each other rather than the same like we're used to but it works. Good luck.

I already tried that.. My universal joint caps are 1.190 " in o.d.... I have to have 1.880 caps to get a combination joint as you mentioned..Thanks anyway....
