We are pouring the floor in a 36 x 50 building today to store our tractors and machinery. We will use the fibermesh composition and am wondering about how soon to spray or roll a sealer on this new floor. Seems like I always get some grease and oil out of these old critters and if the sealer would keep it from penetrating and wash up easier, I think thats the way to go. Any ideas or experience on how long to wait before sealing and which products would be apppreciated. Thanks Migraine

Thanks for the responses guys. We had a perfect day to pour and it turned out excellent. We could have a skating party on that smooth surface. My son in law is the contractor for us and he has got it together. We sprayed the sealer on it as soon as we were done power troweling and it shines like the sun. Used that jasco or Masco sealer as suggested here and by the local building supply house. Thanks migraine

Migrane, I can tell you what not to use, Spenkleglas Kote, A company I worked for put it on their boiler room floor at about 20,000 dollars and it was beautiful. If a fork lift came in the coating rolled up behind it. If water was on it for more than an hour it lifted the coating up where the water was. It was a nightmare. They put an epoxy with coloring in it on the new boiler room floor that was hard as nails and still quite nice to the eye. It was kind of pricy but ten years later is still holding up.

What Pete said. Any of the "soak in" type sealers should be put on as soon as possible. They will slow the cure time and make for a stronger floor. If you use the epoxy that John used, you have to wait a minimum of six months. The epoxy doesn"t bond very good to uncured concrete, and even at six months, the concrete is a bit green.

My floor was a couple of years old before I painted it so it was'nt a factor for me.

First you gotta decide what you're gonna use, then see how long to wait to apply it to new concrete. Until then I'd just get some thin cheap plastic and put newspaper on top to catch drips until you seal the floor. I did my basement with 2-part epoxy that had paint flakes to highlight the base coat, looks real good and they make it for garages too. But then there's alot of good stuff out there depending on your needs so take your time and check out all that's availible.

I used a product from Jasco, clear liquid, can't remember the name. Sprayed it on as soon as I could walk on the cement. The slab cured without cracking, also sealed it against staining for a long time, it probably should be reapplied from time to time.

I have used that too. I have to wonder how good it will work with the fiber mesh.
