NOT TRACTOR RELATED, BUT I FIND THIS IS WHERE I GET THE BEST ANSWERS. FLANGE BOLTS THAT BOLT REAR U JOINT TO REAR END, WON'T STAY TIGHT. TIGHTIN AS TIGHT AS POSSIBLE IN A FEW DAYS THERE FINGER LOOSE. WILL LOCK TIGHT SOLVE THE PROBLEM ARE DO I NEED NEW BOLTS? THANKS BILL

If the bolt length permits you could put a lock washer on before inserting the bolts. You could also change the nuts to the fiber lined stop type nuts. I agree with Earl too, since that is only fixing the secondary problem and not addressing why it is like that in the first place.

If there's room on the threads, put a second nut on and tighten it against the first nut.

thanks fellows for info. went to parts store today , boltas they had had to large of heads. these are stds. could ger smaller bolt and put nuto back side. don;t know about balance. thanka again bill

If the nuts are loosening on their own then like Earl said there may be an abnormal vibration,etc at the joint causing it. Thing is though if there were a bad vibration in the driveline then you ought to feel it when your driving. If your not feeling/noticing anythign abnormal then it may simply be that the threads in the nuts are pulled and they just won't stay tight anymore. Whatever the problem I'd start by replacing the nuts. Instead of Loctite though I'd simply use a lock nut.

Lock Tight should solve it, but this makes me wonder, is there a vibration, say possibly in the U joint, that is causing this to loosen up?
