Anybody out there who has owned one of these? I"m pondering making an offer on one with 70K miles. Seems to be in decent shape, rides like a dream compared to my 88 F250 (and the 04 F250 we just drove). Searches on the web have not turned up the best ratings. But its in my price range - so far the only used truck I"ve been able to find with the ext cab and 8" box that I want - and can justify paying for. And the wife thinks she will be able to drive it.

I"ll put 4 to 5K miles on it a year, trips to the lumber yard, gravel pit, the lake with a 4000 lb boat, and the occassional commute to work. It has the 6.0 and is an LT model with electric and automatic everything.

Would appreciate any experiences that anyone can share.

Thanks, Tim in NY

I have a 2000 2500 HD with 176,000 miles. Use it for everything from pulling trailers to recovering stuck tractors/vehicles etc.

Had a few minor problems, most under warranty. Transmission has been chattering between overdrive and reverse for the last 25k miles, but it's still going strong.

I've had a number of Chevies over the years. This is the best so far. I am very happy with it.

I have a 2002 2500HD LS that has been a great truck. My brother has a 2000 2500HD LS that has nearly 100k. He has had no problems.

My parents have a 2003 2500HD that has had a few problems. It is a base model. The radios keep going out. Otherwise pulls very well.

Thanks. Glad to hear that you and your family have been satisfied with your trucks. I've made the deal, so my fingers are crossed.

Thanks again,

Tim

owned 2000 regular 2500 for 1 1/2 yr.now. Wife is only 5'2" but has no problem driving it. You could search this site for info. Only thing I have turned up on it may be that you have to keep tank 3/4 full or higher because the fuel pump uses gasoline to cool itself, & running it near empty all the time may cause pump to fail.

2x4 - how many miles are on the truck now? Have you had any major problems with mechanicals or electronics?

I did search this site and found some discussions. Most were about a piston slap problem at cold start that sounded annoying, but apparently is not an an engine failure issue. Problems with the ABS at low speeds was another.

Thank you for your response,

Tim
