This comming weekend I have to make a long road trip up to Effingham, IL to take the wife to a thing for her work. So I will be at the mercy of my 4 month old boy BY MYSELF either stuck sitting in a hotel room or goofing around somehow.
I have never been to the area and was wondering if anyone here knew of anything around that I might kill some time looking at or exploring.
Please Help Me..... ..

Thank you guys for the suggestions! I was searching around to see if I could find some old tractor junkyards or shops, etc. I know OEM Tractor Parts is in Illinoise but probably to far of a drive north from Effingham.

There is a lot of stuff going on this next weekend around effingham. As others have said there is the Porshce show at Mid-America Motor Works. One of the circus shows is suppose to be in town that weekend. The High School Rodeo Finals are held at the Effingham county fairgrounds(which are located approx. 6 miles west of Effingham on route 40)
I am sure there is more interesting stuff it just depends on what your interests are.

OK, this is a bit of a twist on this topic, but just for the giggles, I gotta ask...

Did anyone besides me ever get a ticket going thru Effingham IL, call it a bad name, and then begin to wonder if it didn't get it's name from someone many years ago being upset by the law there and not wanting to spell out the whole curse-word? e.g. = f---inham

Allan drive 25 minutes north of effinburg and you will find Lake Shelbyville this will keep you all busy the deer in Eagle creek will walk up to your car and eat twinkees out of his hand. Or if you like corvettes on RT-45 about 2 miles north of I-70 there is a vette place that has several on display to go check out. And in southern ILL watch for deer as big as cows from I-24 north to Mt Vernon they grow big in those hills and I have nailed many there on 57 with a big truck mostly at night. And if you got time you can drive about an hour and 15 minutes west to ST Louis and find bass pro a good place to waste time or stop by the Budweiser brewery that will entertain the heck out of you

Allen,

Not sure what your interests are, but the first capitol of Illinois (Vandalia) is a few miles southwest of Effingham. Rend Lake is a pretty area some miles south of Effingham (you'll see it as you drive along I-57 before you get to E'ham). Lots of pretty farm country around there, too.

Allen, I live 10 miles south of Effingham and thought I would throw a few things your way. This weekend at exit 162 there is a Porshce show put on by a local buismess and they have a nice muesum full of vettes, porshce, and bettles. They always put on a real nice show. Also two good places to eat are niemergs steak house on exit 159 or rexroats in downtown effingham west of the courthouse. I wish I could help you pass the time but farming is done and we are heading out with the camper this weekend. Hope you have a good time and the weather cools off. Troy
