I would like to put a new CB radio in my truck, but I don't know which one to get. The local truck stop (Sapp Bros.) has some Cobra's but I don't see many others around anymore. Can you guys give me some advice? Thanks

As the others said get you a Cobra 29 classic and spend your money on a good noise canceling mic and a good antenna.

Now if you want to go all out you could get a Galaxy with echo; talk back; reverb; all the bells and whistles. You could then sound like a big truck driver. (chicken hauler) Also do not for get the voice changer so you can make your voice sound like a girl. You can then drive every one at the truck stop wild with anticipation.

I use a Cobra 29 sound tracker, I have heard that the classic is better. I bought it used several years ago for $50. About 2 years ago had it worked on still legal but better range.

I agree. The 29 Classic is a much better radio. I found that the Sound Tracker filtered out TOO much. If you are talking amongst a crowd, or at a distance, it tended to filter out the person you were talking to.

Yes, it is a big radio, size wise, but with some creativity, you can tuck it under a dash without it sticking out too far. I ran a Galaxy for a while, and it is about the same size as a 29, except it sticks out a little farther due to the heat sink on the back.

When I left the trucking business, I think I was using a Cobra in my truck. The one most truck stops had under the counter for a reasonable price (forget how much). Worked good. Thought I'd get one for my p/u to carry on the tradition..... wrong!

Too big. In the cab of an 18 wheeler it fits fine. In the cab of the p/u all you have is radio. It overwhelms the cab.
My 2c.

Problem in today's pickups is finding a place to put it. There just isn't any place flat to mount one that doesn't look plain stupid! I wound up mounting my Cobra Classic vertical on the back of the center console. I dunno what I would've done had I not had the captain's chairs and console.

Used to be that you could buy a Uniden, which actually made the Cobra CBs, get the exact same radio as a Cobra for about $10-20 cheaper. If the only thing you can find is Cobra, I would go with a Model 29. Good all around radio. You might want to consider looking on eBay for an older working model. I've had one for over 20 years now, and hasn't missed a beat.

You should also consider antennas and microphones when installing one. I've ran with a Wilson 1000 Magnet Mount, and been really happy with it's performance. I'm also using an Astatic 575M6 Microphone.

100% correct. The mike plus the anntenna quality and location will make or break the system.
