Anyone use craftsman tools? I"ve got a craftsman tool and die set,was using the die running treads on a bolt when the housing that holds the die with the two handles split in the middle.
Sears said it wasn"t under warranty because it isn"t a tool, just the wrenches, hammers etc are covered.Ayone else run into this.Don"t want anymore of there junk.

I noticed when approaching the clerks at Sears for a tool replacement, they check a drawer for a refurbished replacement. If there is one in there I get that one instead of a new one. I complained that since I am over an hour from my nearest Sears, I would prefer a new one. My request has usually fallen on deaf ears. I have too much invested to jump ship at this point. I usually have a box I throw replacements in until I plan to go to the city to take care of it. In their defense, I have returned items that were my fault they were broken as well. How many screwdrivers have you broken prying that brake drum off? In most cases, they don't ask how, they just get you the replacement. Probably why I have three yard rakes. As soon as I break the second, its time for a roadtrip.

I have returned many tools to Sears for replacement. Usually no problems! But when they started trying to hand me a "refurbished tool," I insisted that they give me one off the display rack! There is a reason that they have a "box-full" of refurbished tools... the same tool that a person wants replaced! I usually find that the store manager will try to help {give out a "new" replacement}, even if they are the one that tells the clerk to hand out refurbished tools!

I made them give me a new not refurbished. My sears says they are suppose to give the refurb first unless the customer asks.

I had a Craftsman torque wrench that came apart inside where the spring is and wanted to get it recalibrated. They could not do that so I asked for a replacement. Was told that it was not a hand tool. I had to buy a new one and it was NOT from Sears. In fact that was the last time I went into a Sears store.

Warranty denials are becoming increasingly common at Sears stores. Whether it's twits at the counter (and they hire lots of them), or some management policies I cannot say. Though I'd suspect a bit of both.

Your tool does carry the standard Craftsman warranty and they are obligated to replace it. Unfortunately, it sounds like you will have to fight them for your rights at this store.

Next time, make sure you talk to a different twit at the counter.

IF it is craftsman, then it is under warranty and i would argue until he** froze over with them. if sears don"t watch out about their warranties and service, they may not be in business much longer. Sears still does have "Satisfaction Guaranteed".

You can chock it up to the K-mart Sears merger. I have not purchased a new Craftsman tool is some years. I stick to Snapon or Mac, I prefer their warranty service.

Aloha, If it says Craftsman and it is a handtool, then they should replace it free of charge. I have replaced pin punches because the tip broke off or it got bent. I thought they wouldn't replace it but they did without any hassle.

I don't know which Craftsman Tap & Die set you have but, the ones I have specifically state, "Die stocks,T-handle tap wrenches and tap and reamer wrenches carry the Craftsman Lifetime warranty. I have the high speed Professional sets. Also, the local managers at these stores are under pressure to keep costs down. Some are instructing their cashiers do do things that aren't correct. When one asked me for a receipt, I asked to speak to the store manager. Had my replacement on the spot! While looking in the current Craftsman catalog I see all the Die sets have the Warranty on the wrenches

Most dies are one of a few standard Outside Diameters. You would probably be best off to find a handle that is better made..... that way you can still use the dies...

I bought a set of micrometers from sears online, when i got them, one of the mics had some problems with the threads binding on it. took it to the store, and they said i had to call the cattolog, the cattolog said i had to go to the local store to their service dept. and the first words out of the service ladies mouth was "we dont service those mics". they then said i had to get send the product back and they would send me a new one. i have not done that, because i think they may rip me off. so, i have a mic set, with one broken mic.

Most tap and die sets have no warranty and very few drill bits. It is like the brakes on a car they are suppose to wear out.

i have one of those crapsman tap and die sets also{got it as a gift} im fortunate mine hasent broke yet. but give it time. i traded all my broken stuff in, and now it just sits in the back of a draw with the tags still on them. crafstman sure has gone down hill. keep a hold of those old tools and dont let them go. to get a replacement nowadays is really a disapointment compared to your old stuff.

I Like to attend fair sized farm estate auctions, and I look for the older Craftsman tools---the ones like what my father bought 45 years ago, and try to buy them!

Many Sears stores are no longer "company" stores but are franchises. The last time I tried to buy tools at the franchise store in the town I was living in, I was told they didn't stock the tool I wanted (a set of metric deepwell 3/8" drive sockets) and was handed a catalog and told to order it. I went down the street to the Ace Hardware and have never been back to Sears for tools.
