Hello, I just inherited this tractor from my grandfather. I was under the immpression that it was a model T tractor conversion, but the logo says overland 6. He converted it himself a long time ago. It"s been parked in a barn for over 50 years now until now. Any help would be appreciated. I pulled a VIN number off of the engine, A1473640. The front wood spoked wheel"s have "whippet" hubcaps. I would like to restore it to it"s original "tractor" condition for showing.

Definitely a Model A Ford engine. You have part of the optional exhaust manifold heater assembly. The missing top cover had a flared front to catch air from the engine fan which then blew across the fins on the manifold and went through a hole in the firewall to really toast the feet of the front seat passenger. There was a rotating cover over the hole that could be closed in warm weather. If you need instructions on ignition timing, just ask.

Thanks for all of the great info on this... I think I will take the "getting it running" option. Get it running, clean it up, but keep the "dings and dents" for stories and such. My next question then is I've never worked with wood spoked wheel's before. Is there a company out there that can refirbish them?

There is an Amish wheelwright here that will do them.

The overland radiator probably has a larger capacity and was used to get more cooling capacity and it was Oakland that became Pontiac

If that is the distributor on top, then it is a Model A Ford. Nothing else in the world like it. I second the idea of get it running but do not paint it. I like it just the way it is. (fixed up that is).

The rear end looks like it is out of a Model TT One Ton Truck.

I vote that you do the minimal amount to it just to get it running and drivable. No paint, just leave that great rust patina. Remember there is only one of what you have there.

I'm not familiar with it, but the sheet metal looks good, looks all or mostly there. She's a dream. Take her apart, sandblast, clean and paint her, put her back together. She's a parade tractor if I ever saw one.

Very nice .... VERY NICE (I'm yelling I know) !! Might I make a suggestion? Keep it as it is, get it running and do minor work like carb overhaul, wiring, detailing, minor repairs, etc. but leave it as it was when your grandfather parked it. All of those little dents and scrapes have a story behind them. That way I think it will mean more to you and your family and will probably even attract more attention at shows. A nice little poster with the story of the tractor (or as much as you can piece together) would go nice with it as a show. you're a lucky fella to have it.

If I remember my history correctly, Overland became Pontiac and Whippet was a Willys product.

Bob, Overland and Whippet were both owned by John Willys. They were built in Toledo Ohio, Overland was a Willys Overland product untill the last one came off the line.

Now that I have thought about it some more, maybe it was the Oakland that became Pontiac

That is just too cute! It is a conversion made up from several autos. I suppose it was some kind of kit origionaly but heck who knows! (Maybe someone) I think as long as you use old car parts you will be fine in however you restore it. I doubt if anyone out there will be able to refute your work.

Neat. For whatever it is worth, that engine is difinetly Model A Ford, 28 to 31. From what I can see in the picture you have a worm driven differential, like was used on the Model TT Ford trucks, and on the 28 and 29 Model AA Ford trucks. Those may be Model TT rear wheels. If so the original tires were marked like 32 X 6, or 30 X 5 or some such #. Different marking system. First # was outside diameter, and second # was rim to tread, so they would be 20" tires and are still available on some of these places on the internet that sell tires for antique cars.Best luck with it. I like the idea of just getting it going and show that away.
