It was the end of long day and I decided that it would be a good idea to change the oil and check all of the fluids.

I changed the oil. Checked the transmission, topped off the hydrolic resevoir and checked the power steering fluid. It was low so I topped it off with some power steering fluid that happened to be on the shelf in the barn.

I got in the tractor, started it up and thought, Hmmm should that have been hydrolic fluid????.

I opened up the resevoir and yep, mayonaise.

It is an old ford 4000. What is the best way to purge the old fluid and replace it with fresh?

what I have done is 1) remove the rubber tube on the return line
2) get two long rubber hoses a)put one hose on the return line let it dangle in a bucket b)put the other hose on the reservior, run this hose to a small tank ( I use a gas tank off of a lawn mower 1 0r 2 gal(has to be clean)mount it higher than the reservior, leave the cap off. c)fill with oil 3) start engine ,work the steering wheel ,untill you get clean fluid thats how I done mine good luck Jer
