My cousin & I were helping an 81 yr. old uncle put away some machinery with his White 120. After backing the tractor in R1, my cousin attempted to put it into Park, but the shift lever would only go half the way up the slot.... resulting in the tractor being stuck in 6th gear. The gear lever will not move. My uncle"s really mad, because "us kids" broke his tractor. (My cousin is 57 and I"m 49 !?!?!) Thanks for any help, Tom

I'm not sure if this is the same shifter we had in a 2-135 Series 3, but on that one the shift lever could come out of the guide slot if you weren't careful shifting. What I mean is the part that moves with the shift lever to change gears on the console. We would have to take a screwdriver or something to move that piece back in line so the slot for the shifter let the lever back in place, and then we had to go to the last gear we were in and shift normally from there.

I know this is probably as clear as mud, but I bet the shift lever is out of position with that part that it moves to change gears.

I am taking a guess on this. If this is still the Oliver style rearend (which I think it is) you have pulled the shift fork out of 6th gear. If I remember correctly, it is a long fork that curves from the top of the trans. case down the right side (as you set on the tractor) almost to the bottom of the trans. case. If it is worn or you got in a hurry shifting it from 6th to reverse the fork has "popped out" of the syncronizer. The only way I know to fix one is take the top off the trans case, remove the shift fork and reinstall it correctly. I fixed one 20 years ago, so my memory isn't what it should be. Get a parts book. If the shift fork for 6th gear is real long, there is a good chance this is what happened. The first thing you need to do is take the top off the shift lever to make sure you haven't bent got gotten one of the shifting rods out off whack.
