We are looking at a Ford 7700 this evening. not knowing a lot about tractors--have horses but now need a tractor to take care of this 30 acres, move hay, mow, etc.. Some of the comments I've read make me wonder if parts might be hard to get for Fords?

I have one with over 6000 hours on it. It it a great tractor, I bought it from my uncle with less than 2000 hrs when he retired. I have had very few repairs, one was the injestor pump because I didn't know about the oil in it. I have used it for plowing (pulls a 3 bottom 16" roll over plow fast), swathing with a 14' hydro swing swather, baling round & small sq bales, lots of loader work (it has a strong front end) and many other things.

My son bought a 7700 a year ago with just over 6000 hrs on it. Tractor had been owned by a neighbour and had been well maintained. We've plowed, worked ground, cut and baled hay with this tractor. As with all tractors using the simms injection pump, the lubricating oil must be changed at the same time as the engine oil. It's level should also be checked regularily between changes. Overall , a 7700 is pretty well bullet proof.

It sounds like for your operation, a good, clean Ford 5610 would be just right.

Ford parts are about as easy to get as any brand. They aren't the cheapest by any stretch.... But they are available.

Hunt up Kyhayman (on here) about the 7700 Ford. He's more familiar with them than anyone I know of. He could tell you what to look for.

That does sound rather large for 30 acres, but too big is better than too small I guess....

The 7700 is CAT II (3-point) I believe... That (along with the HP) will force you to buy bigger, heavier duty implements. (That's not ALWAYS a bad thing, other than the COST)

Thats a lot of tractor for 30 acres but do as you want. Personally I'd go for something smaller and easier to handle. Equipment you may want for 30 acres will be large and less plentyful for this tractor. As far as parts go you'll be able to get all you want new or used. Just hope you don't have to buy any for that beast as with all they will be expensive.

I appreciate the comments. We're looking at this one because of the equipment that comes with it for the price...$10,000. Front loader with clamp-on forks, 10-ft Woods mower,, 3-pt hay spear, and blade. Everything we need. It seems to be cheaper to go with a bigger tractor than we need because EVERYBODY wants a 30-50 hp tractor. The seller says everything works...he bought it from a neighboring widow and it's too big for him. If my 21-year-old son decides he likes farming, there is land around us.
