Hi Guys,
I just bought a very well kept MF 135. It does not have a data plate on it. The only numbers I can find on it are on each side and then on the rear axle. The left side of the block had 894 682 M6. The right side of the block has 897 719 M1. Then I found another number on the right side. It was 28 D D. Then another: 1501. And another was 5867050. On the left side was the number: 894 682 M2. On the right rear axle was: 190962M1. On the left rear axle was 183251M2. I read on one of these forums that you could find a number underneath the tractor to indicate the year it was built. I looked real hard and found no numbers. I may not know where to look but I really tried to find anything but couldn't. So, with all this info, does anyone have an idea of what year my tractor was built.

Love my MF 135!!

Well, my tractor does not have data plate. Is there any place I can go to for any idea of the birth date jist by using the serial numbers I provided? Can anyoneguess at the year model using those serial numbers? It's a diesel with multi-power. It runs great. The man I bought it from got it from a local dealer here in Louisville as a trade in. He said the dealer told him that it was a 72 model. How do they know that? I suppose I could ask them huh?

thanks for your feed back. this is an awsome web sight!

Like Gerald said the data tag on dash had serial number of complete tractor. It would have started with a 6 and been 9 digits if 1964-67 and started with a 9A if 1967-75. The number on left side of block is engine ser number. Transmission # is on top right hand side of housing. Rear axle assembly ser. # is on top of the left hand side of the axle assembly. Some later specials also had the Perkins 153 gas 3 cyld. engine. We had one of them.

Most all those numbers (especially those with M inclusions) are casting or part numbers. Unless they were only used for a few years they don't help identify the age.

The Serial number tag is on the bottom of the dash, below the steering column about knee high. And there should be an engine tag with serial number because MF bought the engines from Continental or Perkins.

If its gas and Perkins, its middle aged, they started using Perkins gas in '69 for a couple or three years, Continental Z-145 (or 134 on the Special) before and after that period. Diesels were Perkins all years.

You need serial numbers to buy parts for some portions of the tractor. One wonders if a tractor with no SN tag has left a previous owner without the new owner paying.

My '68 has a Continental engine.

The original rear tires had 1969 date codes.

Makes me suspect that '68 and '69 models were rambling about dealer and factory lots in 1969. Your comment about a choice when ordering reinforces that suspicion. I didn't have any freedom that year or any interest so I didn't notice.

I'm of the opinion that had you ordered the Continental engine you would have found it had a serial number from '68 or earlier. My '68 (bought used in 1987) came with a '69 manual for the Perkins gas engine. I found the '68 manual that I bought from MF was a whole lot handier when taking care of the Continental engine.
