I have a 1976 Ford 550 TLB. I fill the radiator to the neck. Tighten the radiator cap which is brand new. Then I start the motor. Right away, radiator fluid starts gushing out of the small relief hole on the side of the radiator neck, at the level of the radiator cap gasket. I mean the fluid gushes out like a firehose. After 20 seconds, the gushing stops. Would anyone know what the problem is? Is that relief hole supposed to be there? Thanks

Andrew - Tom is correct. The fluid level must be around 2" lower than the cap. Usually , that level would be just above the core.

Read your manual. You are usually supposed to leave the level down about 2 inches from the neck to allow for expansion when motor heats. If you keep overfilling it and causing it to expell the excess, you are going to dilute your antifreeze ratio.
