Rocking motion on tractor

My tractor, 1983 Ford 7610, has a rocking motion on the highway. A heavy implement on the back reduces a lot of it. The tire rims do not appear to be warped. It does not seem to affect the performance of the tractor, but it is embarrassing to go down the highway with my head jerking back and forth. Any suggestions as where to find the problem?

Sounds like fluid slosh in the rear tires to me. All mine do it above a certain speed (all 7 series Fords).

Sounds like the bolts that hold the wedges to the rim aren't adjusted the same. That will make a tractor walk back and forth.

It is a common problem with nylon cord tires on a cold morning- takes some time for the tires to warm up and even out. Tarp straps hooked to each ear and to the cab windows usually correct the situation.

That addresses MFWD tractors. I can only assume that the Ford is 2WD.

I think the tires are not centered on the rims exact, what is worse when they get in sink with each other, and instead of going side to side it just goes up and down.

Markay - I'm willing to bet that you have power-adjust rear wheels , correct? If so,check your owner's manual to learn how to adjust them. I found the same problem after buying my 5000 in 1971. Jokingly, the dealer said "If you can still stay in the seat, it's ok!" Then he proceeded to adjust them. The wobble never really goes away totally with those rims.

Very often the tires get a "flat" spot on them from sitting for long periods. This is more pronounced in cold and cooler temps. After they are run a while, it levels out. If you're running off road, you probably wouldn't notice it, but on the smooth road surface it becomes apparent. Years ago, before car and truck tires were made with steel cords, they used to do the same thing. A short run down the highway and they would be just fine. One possible explaination.

I'm not an expert but maybe it's that your tires are'nt balanced like a cars'. Also if you have wheel weights that are off a bit it may cause the rocking. Put your tractor up on jacks or use heavy cribbing and see if you have a heavy side to your wheels. You might be able to add some extra weight to balance your wheels if that's the problem, hope this helps.
