rebuilding Midwest grain bed

I'm putting new lumber on a Midwest truck bed that I've already got some new crossmembers in.

I was wondering - - would it be worth the trouble, or is it even advisable to lay down a bead of good silicone around the perimeter of the new boards so dirt/fines won't collect and draw moisture.

I've got my 2x6 t&g boards primed and painted and after the paint dries just a touch more I'll be ready to put this thing back together.

Thanks in advance.

I'd put it together dry and the paint the begeebers out of it with boiled linseed oil. Store it inside if you can.

If the silicone would stay in place maybe? Do you want strands of it in grain later? That's why we welded metal sheeting in our truck bed. Depends are what you are hauling and where I guess and what they say about grading.
