Below is a link to the plans for the pond I"d like to dig this summer.I have my 575D (1993 Ford TLB) all ready to go, and my Dad is bringing his IH 444 with front end loader down as well. I also have a 1972 Ford tandem axle dump truck I"ll be bringing to the lot, once I get roads built. I have about 3 acres of tree clearing & stump removal to do before I can dig. Once the trees, stumps & topsoil are gone, how should I begin? I was thinking of digging the centerline trench of the main pond to depth, then parking backhoe perpendicular to this trench & hogging out the rest. I was told by an experienced backhoe operator to never dig parallel with a deep trench, this trench will be 21" deep in some areas... By backhoe cannot drive on slopes that are greater than 22 degrees. For the steeper banks, how to you guys suggest going about it with the machines I have? I was looking at a 1969 Allis Chalmers HD4 dozer, guy wanted $4500. However I did not purchase it, as it will require $$ to get it in good shape. I just spent $18,000 on my backhoe, and another $3500 on the said backhoe for maintenance & repair, getting it ready for work. (Lot of small things nickel & dimed me, New Holland dealers are rapists as far as I"m concerned) All sugestions weclome.
