I was wondering on what I should do with my feild. I have about 20-25 acres that hasn't been worked in....probably 20 years. No there are trees starting to grow in some places, there are allot of tag elders ect. It looks like sh@t out there.

what is the best way to get some even growth to make my property look better as well as maybe even grow something that cows or even horses could eat?

I am planning on getting both.

Thanks!

Yup I got me some scottish highlanders for that reason, goats are good too. Chemicals as stated above work the best if that is route you want to go...Jim

Canadian, IMO.... Spray all all the woody growth (young trees and brush) with DSL and Remedy. One spray now, while it is actively growing and one more time up in the Fall just prior to frost.
Do not shred it off for you want a lot of dry matter for a good hot fire next Spring. Get it dieing, for this summer. Then burn the place off with controled burn next Spring to put another hurt on it, Then shred off all the woody growth. after that. Control any regrowth with DSL and Remedy. Hope this helps.
Later,
John A.

It's pobably too late for fire if allowed. Next spring maybe if there is enough grass to burn. It does a good job of rolling back sucession. Put a fence around it and put in some beef cattle as another alternative. Between eating and trampling they are surprisingly effective at cleaning up an overgrown field. Then what they don't get you can pull with a tractor.

I'm told highland cattle which are browsers will clean up most old fields.

I cannot burn here as I have a 140 acres attached to the field...LOL The bush is on 3 sides of the field...Too much stress for me. Looks like some cows and trampling and a 335 with a loader is gonna have to do it.
