I have a "New 4" that is frozen up and I am having problems gettining it to let loose! The shaft (ground driven) that recpricates the sickle will not turn. I am afraid to force it too much. I have tried all of the sprays and lubrcants to break it free to no avail. If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

Mark

you might try heat but I suppose it is in a babbit bearing and that would be melted? I'd do some tapping with a hammer but be careful. cast iron breaks

I do not know anything about your mower and how much of the shaft is exposed. If a good portion of shaft is in plain sight, you might free it by soaking it with dry ice.By that I mean, pack dry ice around the shaft for maybe 30 to 45 minutes and then try to move it.If no go then try some gentle heat on the bearing which may cause a slight expansion, sufficient to free it.
