Here, in eastern Nebraska, the right half is yours rule applies. Unfornutaly it is often the person who don't want to feed somebody elses cows that has to fix the fence. Some people just plain don't care whose garden or fields their cows get into. I called a guy one time, he had a about a yearling heifer in my propery. I described the critter and even gave him the color of the ear tags and #s. Wasn't his. I mentioned that if it wasn't his, well I had a lot of room in my deepfreeze. He was soon there to take the animal home and fix the fence. Haven't had any more trouble with him. Western Nebrasa, out where Cowman and Allan live, they have free range out there and go by a whole different set of rules and laws. (I"ve heard).

Been nigh on to 15 years since any loose cattle crossed my property. Now it is just obnoxious mutts that chase my livestock and kill my chickens. Wish I had the cows back.....oh and the turkeys! Woke up one morning and there were turkeys roosting all over the outside of the house! Got away from the same farmer (now deceased and I had nothin to do with it!) who had the cows. Took me most of two hours to round up all them turkeys and persuade them to recross the road to home. Same guy had about 40 Embden geese too. They made a hell of a racket when they flew across into my yard. I miss the cows, the turkeys, the geese and my good old neighbor and friend, the farmer. Count your blessings.
