no wonder the average american is 2 paychecks away from bankruptcy. From reading below-spending 7000 dollars to mow 2 acres, oh well my property is paid for and when I go to work I work for myself not a lending institution. Good luck to all of you who are carrying the debt-it makes us few who are money wise that much better off.

Didn't see it either, but guess you mean 7000 for a tractor to mow 2 acres. Make more sence to me if you injoy that sort of thing, than 10 dollars for a parking ticket-50 dollars each for game tickets- 20 dollars for two hot dogs.

$7K to mow 2 acres? I didn't see it yet, but gotta admit mowin 2 acres with a hand mower wouldn't be my cup of tea, although don't like coffee or tea. Would be in better shape though.

Took my Mom into Home Depot a couple of years ago for something, and there were little Deeres for about $5K. I about died. Yesterday was in Lowes and saw a whole bunch of MTD Wheel Horses, Cub Cadets, Simplicitys, Ariens, and a dark green something or other from $1.5K - $3.5K. They're all about a 5 year tractor at best.

I put together an old AC B that mows around the house for about $1.5K, and it does just fine. Will be mowin around the house long after I'm dead. But, if others wanna buy that stuff, is there money (credited or cash), not mine. I know what you mean though about credit - is not the preffered way.

Agreed! 5 years? check the message above. Less that 4 on a B&S. What really hurts me is to see what they have done to ruin the reputation of a brand name green machine. Absolute junk and sold in all stores now. I used to own a JD 140 hydrostatic lawn TRACTOR. Man was that thing built.

I still own a JD 140 made in 1973. And you are right, "man is that thing built".

I musta done something wrong then. I accidentally got 10 years outa my old Craftsman. Finally the deck went south (hit a rock, bent the blade, which sliced a gash in the deck) and I didn't wanna fix it (okay, I wanted a shiny new lawn mower) so I replaced it with a $1500 Cub Cadet from Lowes.

Mornin' Ken. Yesterday I posted some pictures under tractor photos of an old Farmall H and a couple of Deere A's for Rauville, just as my idea of the perfect parade style tractors (anymore), and they're for sale (cheap if ask me), but the owner offered me a deal on the biggest reddest old Cub Cadet that I'd ever seen, and was built. Didn't run because had sat out, and water had gotten into the new big Onan, but came with a snow blower, front blade, huge mower deck, and some other stuff. He sold it to some guy for $700, the guy took it home and tinkered a few, and called him back - is runnin like a champ. Don't make stuff like they used to. You are correct. I prefer old iron, if you take care of it, it's repairable and just keeps going, for much cheaper.

Wait untill you go for Onan parts, that's when the good deal won't be.

We've had a few Onans, (still have 2) and unless it's an OLD cast iron one running at 1800 rpms on a gen set, they just don't last, and drink fuel untill they die. (How about those $350.00 starters?)

Your right, they don't build them like they use to, includeing those Onan's!!

Robert
