I need to buy a new lawnmower. I am interested in the ZTR units. I have about 2 acres to mow. I am not doing this commercially. What would be your choice and how much should I expect to spend? Thanks, Easy.

None of the above!
Do a search on Walker Mower. This is an American company that still builds its equipment in the USA. They have many models so would have one suited to your needs. Their products are quality and they stand behind them. Their reputation is well known in this area for being fair, honest, and good community citizens. Their contact information is;
Walker Manufacturing Co.

Fort Collins, CO 80528

Grasshoppers are made in Kansas and the Exmarks are made in Nebraska

Wonderful! I wasn't trying to intimate that the others weren't American made, just pointing out what I consider another excellent choice. Ed

I have worked on both and used both and will be very honest. the new dixies arent too bad the old ones are a nightmare. if you you go with a old one the drive system was much like old motorcycles slag clutch etc. the new dixies w/the hydraulic orbit motors are ok work well. i like the grasshpper vs exmark in the fact the deck sits up front vs underneath your feet works better for trimming pines etc if you have the like. even though only 2 acres if you go w/the dixie etc go w/the commercial mower upfront cost may be couple thousand but will serive you alot more years many many more dont underbuy.

Grasshopper also has a mid-mount like the eXmark.

Dixie has a model that can mow a football field in less that 10 minutes but if you want the real truth ask JT he sells both I belive and he will give you an honest awsner bacause he has seen most all of them work and he knows which show up in his shop the most for work.

Looked at the Grashopper place, but wasn't open. Landpride is sold by the local NH dealer, might get there this week. Looked at the Cub Cadet stuff, but they were sold out. 1 month backlog. Easy.

GRASSHOPPER.....

I have used several of them commercially. (and many other brands) I have friends that run Grasshoppers on their acreges(sp). I have been to several outdoor power equipment expos around the U.S. and have been able to compare them to what else is out there. While most brands make a good mower I think the Grasshopper is a well built machine. Exmark is a very close second. Just my two cents.

After looking at a lot of them and useing several of them, i bought a Grasshopper 721-D, 61" deck and vac.

It's the best mower i've owned and does a great job, it also rides very good, much better than a tractor ect.. I have back problems so this is important to me.

I like the diesel engine too, it has more low end torque, uses about 1/2 the fuel of the gas models and should last about twice as long too. Well worth the extra cost to me.

BTW, Grasshopper has snowblowers and other accessories for there zero turns.

Robert

I have no idea which would be the best mower, since I've never owned a ZTR myself, but I just stopped tonight to look at John Deeres. A new JD 757, 25HP, 60" was priced at $7300 (I believe they said the list price was 10K+). A new 717A, 19HP, 48" was $6000.
